The Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor), has announced an investment of $4.93 million to support six targeted projects aimed at strengthening economic development, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, and business growth in Temiskaming Shores and surrounding communities across Northern Ontario. The funding reflects a strategic effort to build resilient local economies, create jobs, and support long-term, sustainable growth in the region.

A significant portion of the funding is directed toward strengthening support systems for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation will receive $1.6 million in non-repayable funding over five years. This investment will enhance access to business counselling, investment capital, and community strategic planning services, helping local entrepreneurs start, grow, and modernize their businesses while improving overall economic resilience.

Mining, a cornerstone of Northern Ontario’s economy, is also a key focus of the investment package. The City of Temiskaming Shores will receive $1.15 million in non-repayable funding to establish a Northern Ontario Mining Showcase (NOMS) pavilion at the 2026 PDAC and CIM conventions. The initiative is expected to support nearly 150 mining and mining-supply businesses, helping them increase sales, enter new markets, and form strategic partnerships with global industry players, thereby strengthening the region’s mining supply chain.

Manufacturing expansion and industrial capability development form another critical pillar of the funding. B & G Industrial Services will receive $1,000,135 in repayable funding to expand its operations through the construction of a 19,650-square-foot manufacturing facility and the acquisition of advanced equipment. The project will enable the inspection and refurbishment of heavy-duty trucks, is expected to create 12 new jobs, and is projected to increase production capacity by 30%, reinforcing Northern Ontario’s industrial base.

Support for agriculture and logistics infrastructure is addressed through a $499,895 repayable contribution to Koch Grain Elevator (Earlton) Inc.. The funding will support the construction of a shipping and receiving rail terminal, including the installation of conveyors, bucket elevators, and automated loading bins. This investment will improve efficiency in grain handling and distribution, benefiting Northern Ontario’s agricultural producers and strengthening regional supply chains.

The circular economy and sustainability are also represented through support for Mid North Recycling, which will receive $380,150 in repayable funding. The investment will enable the expansion of metal recycling operations through a new facility and advanced processing technology, allowing the company to scale production, increase revenues, and contribute to environmental sustainability while creating economic value.

In addition, the City of Temiskaming Shores will receive $297,000 in non-repayable funding to support a three-year Economic Development Officer position. The role will focus on advancing regional priorities such as land development, workforce attraction, tourism, agriculture, mining, and forestry—key sectors that underpin long-term economic growth in Northern Ontario.

Collectively, these FedNor investments are designed to create jobs, strengthen local businesses, and diversify regional economies. By supporting entrepreneurship, industrial expansion, infrastructure development, and strategic planning, the Government of Canada is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring Northern Ontario communities are well-positioned for sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the years ahead.
