Nidec Corporation has inaugurated a new Technical Center in Ritto City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, marking an important step in strengthening collaboration, innovation, and customer engagement across its machine tool operations. The new facility consolidates the expertise and technologies of four companies within Nidec’s Machine Tool Business Unit—Nidec Machine Tool Corporation, Nidec OKK Corporation, PAMA SpA, and Takisawa Machine Tool Co., Ltd.—creating a unified platform for advanced manufacturing solutions.

Designed as more than a conventional demonstration space, the Technical Center functions as a collaborative innovation hub where customers and engineers can work together to solve complex machining challenges. The facility houses an extensive lineup of approximately 30 machine tools and associated technologies, allowing visitors to see a broad spectrum of machining capabilities in one location. These include systems for high-precision, high-speed machining, automation-ready solutions, and equipment tailored for demanding industrial applications.

A core objective of the Technical Center is to support customers throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. Services offered at the facility include machining validation, where customers can test and verify processes before committing to production, as well as support for mass-production start-ups. By enabling early-stage trials and optimization, Nidec aims to reduce risk, shorten ramp-up times, and improve overall production efficiency. The center also provides process optimization support, helping manufacturers refine machining strategies to improve accuracy, productivity, and consistency.

The Technical Center plays a strategic role within Nidec’s broader manufacturing ecosystem. Several machine tools from Nidec Machine Tool will also be deployed at the reducer prototype factory located at the same Shiga site, as well as at a new high-precision, high-speed press machine factory scheduled to begin operations in April. This close physical and operational integration is intended to strengthen collaboration between Nidec’s machine tool, reducer, and press machine businesses, enabling faster development cycles and deeper technical synergies across divisions.

As manufacturing environments become increasingly complex—driven by advanced component geometries, evolving workforce conditions, and rising environmental expectations—Nidec sees closer cooperation with customers as essential. The Technical Center is positioned as the first step in a new approach that emphasizes joint problem-solving and long-term partnership rather than standalone equipment delivery. Nidec has indicated that similar Technical Centers may be established overseas in the future to support global customers more effectively.

The facility also serves as a hands-on learning and development environment. In addition to live demonstrations of machine tools and automation systems, the center offers practical training in machine operation, application technologies, and maintenance. This focus on workforce development is intended to strengthen shopfloor skills, improve operational efficiency, and help customers adapt to new manufacturing technologies with greater confidence.

Through the launch of the Ritto Technical Center, Nidec is reinforcing its strategy of combining technological depth with close customer collaboration. By bringing multiple machine tool brands together in a single innovation-focused environment, the company aims to deliver comprehensive, application-driven solutions while building deeper, long-term relationships with manufacturers across a wide range of industries.
