IKO will invest $363M, Creating 180 Jobs in Chester County

Two industrial plants in Chester County will get investment of $363 million from a Canadian business that manufactures roofing goods.

According to a press release, IKO will launch its first operations in South Carolina with two facilities less than a mile apart along the S.C. 9 industrial corridor in Chester County. 180 new jobs are anticipated to be created by the project.

According to company information, the company manufactures a wide range of products for waterproofing and roofing for both commercial and residential buildings, as well as rigid insulations for walls and roofs.

According to the press release, IKO intends to construct a new 325,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on Cedarhurst Road and refurbish an existing site on Lancaster Highway to produce fibreglass mats for use in production at its American shingle manufacturers. These South Carolina facilities will be IKO’s first totally owned glass and glass mat facilities.

David Koschitzy, CEO of IKO, expressed his happiness at the opening of the company’s first wholly-owned glass and glass mat facilities in South Carolina. This is merely the most recent of numerous large investments IKO has made to support a developing U.S. market presence.

IKO was established in Calgary, Alberta, in 1951, and it debuted in the American market in 1979. The company presently employs 3,500 people across more than 25 production facilities in Slovakia, the United States, England, Belgium, Canada, and the United States. The industry exports roofing materials to 96 countries.
