Valeo to Manufacture Advanced ADAS Safety System in India for Commercial Vehicles!
Valeo has been selected by a leading Indian automobile manufacturer to supply its advanced driver assistance system, Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS360), for commercial vehicles in India. The development marks a major step in the company’s strategy to strengthen intelligent vehicle safety technologies tailored for Indian road conditions while expanding its local manufacturing and engineering capabilities.
The VSS360 platform will be manufactured at Valeo’s facility in Sanand, Gujarat, reinforcing the company’s commitment to localized production and advanced automotive technology development in India. The integrated ADAS solution has been specifically engineered for Indian traffic environments and is designed to improve vehicle safety, reduce accident risks and support evolving safety regulations in the commercial vehicle sector.
According to Valeo, the Smart Safety 360 system combines multiple advanced safety and driver assistance functions into a single scalable architecture. The system includes technologies such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Information System (BSIS), Moving Off Information System (MOIS) and Driver Drowsiness & Attention Warning systems.
These features are aimed at addressing the unique challenges associated with Indian road conditions, including heavy urban congestion, unpredictable traffic movement, mixed vehicle usage and the need for improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The integration of multiple safety functions into a unified system is expected to help commercial vehicle operators improve road safety while supporting regulatory compliance and fleet efficiency.
Valeo stated that the VSS360 platform has been developed as a cost-efficient “one-box” ADAS solution in which radar fusion technology is integrated directly into the smart front camera system. This design simplifies vehicle integration, reduces hardware complexity and improves overall system efficiency for automotive manufacturers.
The system utilizes a combination of three radars and one camera supported by advanced computer vision technology to ensure reliable operation across varied driving and environmental conditions. These technologies enable the platform to continuously monitor vehicle surroundings, detect potential hazards and assist drivers in preventing collisions and unsafe driving situations.
Marc Vrecko stated that the project demonstrates Valeo’s ability to deliver advanced safety technologies capable of operating effectively in highly demanding mobility environments. He emphasized that India remains a strategic market under the company’s “Elevate 2028” roadmap and highlighted Valeo’s focus on providing scalable and affordable safety solutions adapted to local transportation requirements.
Jayakumar G noted that the project further strengthens Valeo’s growing presence in India’s commercial vehicle ADAS market. According to him, rising regulatory focus on vehicle safety is accelerating the adoption of intelligent driver assistance technologies across the Indian automotive industry.
He also stated that Valeo’s local manufacturing and engineering operations in India allow the company to offer globally competitive technologies customized for domestic customer needs while supporting faster development and integration capabilities.
The ADAS platform developed for the Indian OEM is expected to support upcoming General Safety Regulations while also incorporating fatigue-monitoring technologies designed to reduce accidents caused by driver distraction, inattention and exhaustion — major safety concerns in commercial transportation operations.
One of the notable features of the system is Valeo’s Univolt Camera technology, which supports both 12V and 24V electrical architectures. This flexibility enables deployment across a wide range of commercial vehicles, from light commercial vehicles to heavy-duty trucks, increasing scalability across different fleet categories.
Valeo also confirmed that the VSS360 platform supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates, enabling manufacturers and fleet operators to upgrade and maintain system performance throughout the vehicle lifecycle without requiring extensive hardware modifications. This capability aligns with the growing trend toward connected and software-defined vehicle architectures in the automotive industry.
As India continues advancing vehicle safety regulations and intelligent mobility initiatives, technologies such as the Valeo Smart Safety 360 platform are expected to play an increasingly important role in improving commercial vehicle safety, reducing accident rates and supporting the modernization of the country’s transportation ecosystem.
