Nidec Global Appliance Accelerates Maharashtra Compressor Plant Project Ahead of 2026 Production Launch!
Nidec Global Appliance has entered a major construction phase for its upcoming compressor manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, as the company advances preparations for commercial production scheduled to begin in the final quarter of 2026. The new facility will manufacture Embraco compressors for residential and commercial refrigeration applications and is expected to become one of the company’s most advanced compressor production hubs globally.
According to the company, the project is progressing on schedule, with foundational and underground civil work already completed. This includes all major footing activities and structural groundwork required to support the next stages of construction. Work is currently underway on perimeter infrastructure while preparations continue for the installation of steel structures and pre-engineered building systems, which are scheduled to begin during the second half of May.
Once steel assembly operations commence, the project will move rapidly toward the development of core production infrastructure, including columns, roofing systems and the primary manufacturing buildings that will house the integrated compressor production operations.
Approximately 100 workers are currently engaged at the project site, supporting various stages of construction, civil engineering and infrastructure development. Nidec Global Appliance stated that worker safety remains a key priority throughout the project lifecycle. To reinforce its safety commitment, the company has established a dedicated on-site training and awareness center focused on accident prevention, operational safety practices and workforce education.
Alongside construction activities, the company is also managing engineering coordination, procurement, recruitment and contract administration through a local office in the city center. A team of 24 professionals is currently overseeing these operational and project management activities to ensure timely execution of the facility.
The upcoming plant is expected to become a major industrial and employment center for the region. Once fully operational, the facility will directly employ around 1,500 people across manufacturing, engineering and operational functions. In addition, the project is expected to generate nearly 800 indirect jobs through supplier networks, logistics operations, local services and supporting industries connected to the manufacturing ecosystem.
To support workforce development, Nidec Global Appliance has partnered with regional technical institutes and universities to create specialized educational programs tailored to the skills required at the new facility. The company is working with educational institutions to introduce industry-oriented training modules focused on advanced manufacturing technologies and industrial operations.
Eduardo Almeida stated that the initiative is designed not only to support manufacturing operations but also to create long-term educational and professional development opportunities for young professionals in the region. He emphasized that the project is helping build a future-ready workforce capable of supporting advanced manufacturing and high-technology industries in India.
The plant will manufacture four major Embraco compressor families — ES, EL, FMS and VLT — along with electronic inverter systems designed to improve energy efficiency and refrigeration performance. These products incorporate advanced refrigeration technologies developed for global markets and are expected to support growing demand for energy-efficient cooling solutions.
A dedicated research and development division will also operate within the facility, enabling Indian engineers and researchers to focus on product monitoring, manufacturing optimization and performance enhancement initiatives. The addition of local R&D capabilities reflects the company’s broader strategy of strengthening innovation and engineering operations within India.
Spread across more than 100,000 square meters, the highly integrated facility will include stamping, machining, motor manufacturing, electronics production and final assembly operations under one roof. With an annual production capacity of approximately 6 million compressors, the project represents an investment exceeding US$120 million.
The Maharashtra expansion highlights India’s growing importance as a manufacturing destination for advanced industrial and appliance technologies. As global manufacturers continue expanding localized production and supply chain operations in India, projects such as Nidec Global Appliance’s new compressor plant are expected to contribute significantly to industrial growth, employment generation and technology development within the country’s manufacturing sector.
