Flex has announced an expansion of its strategic collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) to manufacture the AMD Instinct platform in the United States. The move strengthens domestic production capacity for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing technologies, supporting the growing demand for large-scale data center deployments.
Manufacturing of the AMD Instinct MI355X platform is currently underway at Flex’s headquarters in Austin, Texas. A volume ramp is expected next quarter as production scales to meet increasing customer requirements. The collaboration extends beyond the current generation, with Flex set to support upcoming AMD Instinct platforms as hyperscale and enterprise data centers accelerate AI infrastructure investments.
At its Austin facility, Flex manufactures the complete AMD Instinct platform, integrating eight AMD Instinct GPUs into a single high-density system. The assembly process includes integration of key surrounding components such as PCIe Gen 5 interfaces, high-bandwidth memory and high-speed interconnect fabric. The result is a tightly integrated platform optimized for performance, scalability and energy efficiency in demanding AI workloads.
Each system undergoes comprehensive factory testing and validation before shipment. This includes the integration of advanced liquid-cooling solutions supplied by JetCool, a Flex company. Liquid cooling is increasingly critical for managing thermal loads generated by high-performance AI accelerators, enabling improved efficiency and sustained computing performance in dense server environments.
Flex’s Austin headquarters spans approximately 1.4 million square feet and is designed to handle complex, high-volume production. The site incorporates sustainable manufacturing practices and advanced production capabilities tailored to next-generation computing platforms. It forms part of Flex’s broader U.S. footprint, which totals more than seven million square feet across 17 facilities nationwide.
The expansion reflects a broader trend toward localized production of advanced semiconductor and AI systems, as technology companies seek to enhance supply chain resilience and reduce lead times. By scaling domestic manufacturing of the AMD Instinct platform, Flex supports both technological advancement and regional industrial capacity in the high-performance computing sector.
With AI adoption accelerating across industries, the collaboration between Flex and AMD positions both companies to meet the surging demand for scalable, high-density computing solutions that power data-driven innovation.
