Membrane Group India and Japan’s Kurita Water Industries have announced the formation of Kurita Membrane India Private Limited, a joint venture aimed at delivering advanced water and wastewater treatment solutions for India’s rapidly growing semiconductor and electronics manufacturing industry. The partnership combines Kurita’s global expertise in industrial water treatment with Membrane Group India’s engineering and project execution capabilities, creating a specialised company focused on supporting one of the most critical infrastructure requirements of semiconductor manufacturing—high-purity water management.

India’s semiconductor industry is projected to reach a market value of US$120–150 billion by 2035, driving significant investments in fabrication plants, electronics manufacturing and associated infrastructure. Semiconductor production requires extremely high-quality water throughout the manufacturing process, making reliable water treatment and recycling systems essential for maintaining product quality, operational efficiency and environmental compliance. The newly formed joint venture aims to address these requirements by delivering advanced and sustainable water management solutions tailored specifically for the semiconductor sector.

Under the agreement, Kurita Water Industries will hold a 51 percent stake in the new company, while Membrane Group India will retain the remaining 49 percent. The joint venture combines Kurita’s internationally recognised expertise in industrial water technologies with Membrane Group’s strong local presence, engineering capabilities and manufacturing experience. Together, the partners aim to provide comprehensive water infrastructure solutions that support India’s ambition of becoming a global semiconductor manufacturing hub.

Kurita Membrane India will offer a broad portfolio of specialised solutions, including ultrapure water systems, wastewater treatment plants, water recycling technologies, resource recovery systems and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) solutions. These technologies are designed to ensure that semiconductor manufacturers receive the exceptionally high-quality water required for precision manufacturing while minimising water consumption and environmental impact. In addition to supplying treatment systems, the company will also provide engineering, installation, commissioning, operations and maintenance services, enabling customers to benefit from complete lifecycle support.

A key feature of the joint venture will be the establishment of an advanced Ultrapure Water Analysis Centre, which will provide water quality testing, monitoring and process optimisation services. The facility will help manufacturers maintain the stringent water quality standards essential for semiconductor fabrication while supporting continuous improvement in operational performance and resource efficiency.

Commenting on the partnership, Peeyush Narang, Managing Director of Membrane Group India Pvt. Ltd., said India has a unique opportunity to establish itself as a major global semiconductor manufacturing destination. He noted that achieving this objective requires world-class industrial infrastructure, with water management playing a critical role in supporting advanced manufacturing. According to Narang, the joint venture aims to ensure that India’s semiconductor industry has access to globally benchmarked ultrapure water systems, advanced wastewater recycling technologies and sustainable water management solutions capable of supporting long-term industrial growth.

The collaboration also reflects the increasing focus on sustainability within semiconductor manufacturing. Water recycling, resource recovery and Zero Liquid Discharge technologies enable manufacturers to significantly reduce freshwater consumption while improving environmental performance and regulatory compliance. As semiconductor fabrication facilities consume substantial volumes of water during production, efficient recycling and reuse technologies are becoming increasingly important in supporting sustainable industrial development.

The formation of Kurita Membrane India represents an important step in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem by combining international technology with local engineering expertise. As investments continue to accelerate across semiconductor fabrication, advanced electronics and high-technology manufacturing, the joint venture is well positioned to provide the specialised water infrastructure needed to support these industries. By delivering reliable, sustainable and technologically advanced water treatment solutions, Membrane Group India and Kurita Water Industries are contributing to the development of a robust manufacturing ecosystem that supports India’s long-term ambitions in semiconductor production and advanced industrial manufacturing.
