Watlow Launches POWERSAFE Platform to Accelerate Industrial Electrification!

Sunday 12 July 2026, 9:54:08 AM

Watlow has introduced its POWERSAFE™ medium-voltage integrated heater and control platform, a new solution designed to simplify the electrification of large-scale industrial heating processes. As industries worldwide accelerate their transition away from fossil fuel-based heating systems, the demand for reliable, efficient and scalable electric process heating technologies continues to grow. POWERSAFE addresses this need by integrating electric heating, intelligent controls and comprehensive protection systems into a single platform capable of supporting high-capacity industrial applications while reducing infrastructure complexity and improving operational efficiency.

Industrial electrification has become a key strategy for manufacturers seeking to lower carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations. However, replacing conventional combustion-based heating systems with electric alternatives often presents challenges related to power distribution, system integration and operational reliability. Watlow developed the POWERSAFE platform to overcome these challenges by providing a comprehensive solution that simplifies the deployment of electric process heating in industries with multi-megawatt thermal requirements.

Designed for demanding industrial environments, POWERSAFE supports supply voltages of up to 7,200 volts, enabling direct connection to medium-voltage electrical systems. This capability eliminates the need for multiple step-down transformers typically required in conventional electric heating installations. By reducing transformer requirements and minimizing cabling, the platform simplifies system architecture, lowers installation costs and decreases the overall footprint of industrial heating systems. The streamlined design also contributes to faster project implementation and improved long-term operational efficiency.

Safety has been a central focus in the development of the POWERSAFE platform. The system incorporates multiple integrated protection features, including arc flash protection, over-voltage and under-voltage protection, phase loss detection, ground fault monitoring and heater overtemperature protection. These advanced safety systems continuously monitor operating conditions to help prevent equipment damage while protecting personnel and maintaining reliable plant operation. Additionally, the platform separates low-voltage and medium-voltage compartments, enhancing operator safety while simplifying inspection and maintenance procedures.

Beyond electrical protection, POWERSAFE incorporates several advanced engineering features designed to improve system performance and reliability. The platform includes Watlow’s proprietary bussing technology, high-efficiency heat transfer systems, integrated touchscreen monitoring interfaces and predictive maintenance capabilities. These technologies provide operators with real-time visibility into system performance while enabling proactive maintenance planning that reduces unexpected downtime and extends equipment life. The compact integrated design also reduces installation space requirements, making the platform suitable for both new industrial facilities and retrofit applications.

Commenting on the launch, Tim Bruewer, Senior Strategic Marketing Manager at Watlow, said industrial operators require practical electrification solutions capable of supporting large-scale thermal processes without introducing unnecessary complexity. He explained that POWERSAFE enables direct connection to medium-voltage power systems, allowing customers to reduce infrastructure requirements, simplify installation and accelerate the transition from conventional fuel-based heating to electric process heating technologies.

Watlow stated that the POWERSAFE platform has already been successfully deployed across industries including refining, renewable fuels and natural gas processing, where it has helped improve process control, increase equipment uptime and support emissions reduction initiatives. The company believes the integrated architecture offers significant advantages for facilities seeking to improve energy efficiency while maintaining the reliability required for continuous industrial operations.

The platform is designed to support a broad range of industries with high-capacity heating requirements, including oil and gas, renewable fuels, power generation, chemical processing and steel manufacturing. These sectors are increasingly investing in electrification technologies as part of their long-term decarbonisation strategies, creating growing demand for integrated electric heating solutions capable of handling large industrial thermal loads.

Ashish Bhatnagar, Chief Technology Officer at Watlow, noted that successful electrification of large-scale industrial heating processes requires an architecture specifically engineered for medium-voltage operation. He explained that POWERSAFE combines electric heating, intelligent controls and advanced protection technologies within a single integrated platform that enables customers to improve operational efficiency, reduce maintenance requirements and support long-term sustainability goals.

Available through Watlow’s global sales and engineering network, the POWERSAFE platform has been established as the company’s standard solution for medium-voltage industrial process heating applications. By integrating advanced heating technology with intelligent monitoring and comprehensive safety systems, Watlow aims to help manufacturers accelerate industrial electrification while improving operational reliability, reducing energy consumption and supporting the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable manufacturing operations.
