Schaeffler India Becomes First Company to Receive BIS Licence for Cylindrical Roller Bearings!
Schaeffler India has achieved a significant milestone in the country’s bearing industry by becoming the first manufacturer to receive a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) licence for Cylindrical Roller Bearings (CRBs) under the newly introduced Indian standard. The certification has been awarded to the company’s manufacturing facilities at Maneja and Savli in Gujarat, reinforcing Schaeffler India’s commitment to quality, regulatory compliance and world-class manufacturing practices. The achievement marks an important step in strengthening India’s industrial standards while supporting the government’s focus on promoting high-quality, locally manufactured engineering products.
In addition to securing the country’s first BIS licence for cylindrical roller bearings under the new standard, Schaeffler India has also received BIS certification for its Deep Groove Ball Bearings (DGBB) manufactured at the same facilities. The dual certification demonstrates the company’s ability to consistently meet stringent quality requirements across multiple bearing product categories while aligning its manufacturing processes with evolving national standards.
The introduction of the revised BIS framework reflects India’s increasing emphasis on product standardisation, quality assurance and manufacturing excellence across key industrial sectors. By becoming an early adopter of the new certification requirements, Schaeffler India has positioned itself at the forefront of the domestic bearing industry, demonstrating its readiness to comply with changing regulatory expectations while delivering products that meet internationally recognised quality benchmarks.
Cylindrical roller bearings play a vital role across numerous industries, including automotive, industrial machinery, heavy engineering, power generation, mining and manufacturing. These bearings are designed to support high radial loads while delivering reliable performance under demanding operating conditions. Their precision, durability and operational reliability make them critical components in equipment where continuous performance and minimal downtime are essential. Achieving BIS certification under the new standard provides additional assurance to customers that Schaeffler India’s products conform to rigorous quality and performance requirements established for the Indian market.
Commenting on the achievement, Harsha Kadam, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Schaeffler India, said the certification reflects the company’s continued commitment to manufacturing excellence, product quality and customer trust. He noted that becoming the first organisation in India to obtain the BIS licence for cylindrical roller bearings under the new standard demonstrates Schaeffler India’s proactive approach to meeting evolving industry regulations and maintaining the highest standards of engineering and manufacturing. According to Kadam, the recognition further strengthens the company’s ability to deliver reliable bearing solutions that support the changing needs of customers across multiple industrial sectors.
The certification also reinforces Schaeffler India’s strong position within both the automotive and industrial markets, where precision bearings are essential for improving equipment efficiency, reliability and operational performance. As manufacturers increasingly focus on localisation, regulatory compliance and product quality, certified bearing solutions are expected to play a more significant role in supporting India’s expanding manufacturing ecosystem and strengthening confidence in domestically produced engineering components.
Schaeffler India has maintained a presence in the country for more than six decades and today operates five manufacturing facilities, three research and development centres, five sales offices and an extensive industrial and automotive aftermarket network. Employing more than 3,800 people across its operations, the company continues to invest in advanced manufacturing technologies, product development and engineering capabilities to support customers across a broad range of industries.
The latest BIS certification not only recognises Schaeffler India’s manufacturing excellence but also contributes to the broader objective of raising quality standards across India’s engineering sector. As the country continues to position itself as a global manufacturing hub, adherence to stringent national quality standards will become increasingly important in
