
Novarc Technologies Appoints Donato Montanari as Chief Technology Officer!
Novarc Technologies, a Vancouver-based full-stack AI robotics company specialising in automated welding systems, has announced the appointment of Donato Montanari as its new Chief Technology Officer. The appointment marks a significant step in strengthening the company’s technology leadership as it continues to scale its artificial intelligence–driven robotics platforms for industrial welding applications.
Montanari brings more than three decades of experience across artificial intelligence, machine vision, imaging systems, and industrial automation. His background combines deep technical expertise with a strong track record of building and scaling advanced technology businesses, making him well suited to guide Novarc’s next phase of innovation and product development.
Prior to joining Novarc, Montanari served as Vice President and General Manager of Machine Vision and Fixed Industrial Scanning at Zebra Technologies. In that role, he was responsible for leading global product strategies and technology development for industrial vision and scanning solutions used across manufacturing, logistics, and automation environments. His work focused on applying computer vision, AI, and sensing technologies to solve complex industrial challenges at scale.
Beyond large enterprise leadership roles, Montanari has also been closely involved in the startup ecosystem. Over the course of his career, he has contributed to five technology startups in the imaging and machine vision space, each of which achieved successful exits. This experience has given him hands-on exposure to early-stage innovation, rapid product development, and the transition from emerging technology to commercially viable solutions—capabilities that align closely with Novarc’s growth trajectory.
Montanari is also an inventor with multiple patents in semiconductor memory and imaging technology, reflecting his long-standing involvement in foundational technologies that underpin modern AI and vision systems. His technical depth is expected to support Novarc’s continued advancement of intelligent welding automation, where precision sensing, adaptive control, and real-time decision-making are critical.
At Novarc, Montanari will be responsible for driving the company’s overall technology vision, overseeing research and development, and ensuring tight integration between AI software, robotics hardware, and welding process expertise. His leadership is expected to accelerate the evolution of Novarc’s automated welding platforms, supporting customers in industries such as shipbuilding, energy, heavy manufacturing, and infrastructure, where skilled welding labour shortages and quality demands are driving increased adoption of robotic solutions.
