Mahr creates robot-powered automated measurement solutions.

Mahr Engineered Solutions (MES) has created a low-cost method for automating regular measurements. A collaborative robot packs measurement stations in the measuring room or near the production line without an operator, considerably boosting measuring station utilisation and lowering total costs.

Mahr will showcase the recent research on a MarSurf contour and roughness measuring station at the Control 2023 expo (Booth 3101/3201 Hall 3). This is especially useful for clients who wish to inspect large amounts of a recurring workpiece as frequently and quickly as possible.

A workpiece storage unit with pull-out magazines containing the pieces to be measured makes up the system. The MarSurf measuring station is installed atop the workpiece storage unit, with a robot arm attached to the side for easy access to the magazines. The gripper, which was designed to fit perfectly in 3D printing, is used by the robot to pull one out and remove a component. It then inserts it on the MarSurf device’s workpiece holder, and the measurement begins automatically. Following a successful measurement, the robot returns the part to the workpiece storage.
