Sodick Inc., a global leader in electrical discharge machining (EDM) and precision manufacturing technologies, is marking a significant milestone in its corporate journey with the celebration of its 50th anniversary while simultaneously strengthening its leadership structure across the Americas. The company has announced the promotion of industry veteran Mark Sanhamel to President and CEO of the Americas, underscoring its commitment to continued growth, customer support, and technological innovation throughout North and South America.

The leadership transition comes at a pivotal time for Sodick as it reflects on five decades of pioneering advancements in EDM technology and positions itself for future expansion in increasingly competitive manufacturing markets. Since its founding in 1976, the company has played a critical role in advancing precision machining technologies, helping manufacturers achieve higher levels of accuracy, productivity, and process reliability.

Mark Sanhamel assumed the role of President and CEO of the Americas in January 2026, following a successful tenure as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. During his previous leadership role, he was instrumental in driving market share growth, increasing machine and consumable sales, and expanding the company’s operational footprint across the region.

One of the notable achievements under Sanhamel’s leadership was the successful establishment of Sodick Canada, a strategic move that strengthened the company’s ability to serve customers throughout North America. He also led key operational initiatives, including the implementation of company-wide systems and the transition to advanced customer relationship management platforms designed to enhance customer engagement and operational efficiency.

With more than 30 years of experience in the manufacturing and machine tool industry, Sanhamel brings extensive technical and commercial expertise to his new position. His career at Sodick has been marked by several significant accomplishments, including helping the company achieve sales coverage across all 50 U.S. states and expanding its presence throughout North and South America.

His contributions have also been recognized by Sodick’s global headquarters in Japan, where he received a Silver Award for organizational achievement, highlighting his role in driving business growth and strengthening the company’s regional operations.

As President and CEO, Sanhamel’s focus will be on further enhancing customer value through expanded service capabilities, stronger technical support, and innovative product offerings. He has emphasized the importance of maintaining a customer-centric culture while continuing to build brand awareness and strengthen Sodick’s position within the manufacturing sector.

According to Sanhamel, the company remains committed to helping manufacturers succeed by providing access to advanced technologies, application expertise, and responsive customer support. He noted that supporting customer success will continue to remain at the heart of Sodick’s strategy as the company enters its next phase of growth.

The leadership announcement coincides with Sodick’s celebration of its 50th anniversary, providing an opportunity to reflect on a remarkable history of innovation in EDM and precision machining technologies.

Since its establishment in 1976, Sodick has consistently pushed the boundaries of manufacturing technology. The company was responsible for developing one of the world’s first numerical control (NC) die-sinker EDM machines equipped with a microcomputer, a breakthrough innovation that helped transform the precision machining industry.

Over the decades, Sodick continued to introduce technologies that improved machining accuracy, productivity, and reliability. Among its most significant achievements was the development of linear motor-driven machining systems, which eliminated many of the limitations associated with traditional ball screw drives. This technology enabled faster machine response, improved positioning accuracy, reduced maintenance requirements, and virtually backlash-free motion control.

The company also developed its proprietary K-SMC motion controller, a system designed to optimize machine performance through precise control algorithms. Together, these technologies helped establish Sodick as a leader in high-speed, high-precision EDM machining solutions.

In recent years, the company has continued to expand its technological capabilities through innovations designed to address evolving customer requirements. One example is the introduction of iGroove+ wire rotation technology, which enhances machining performance and process stability in wire EDM applications. The company has also expanded its micromachining portfolio with advanced platforms such as the AP30L sinker EDM and the AX350L wire EDM, both designed to meet the growing demand for ultra-precise component manufacturing.

These technologies are particularly relevant for industries such as aerospace, medical devices, semiconductor manufacturing, mold and die production, and precision engineering, where tight tolerances and superior surface finishes are essential.

Sodick’s commitment to regional growth has also been demonstrated through strategic investments in infrastructure and customer support. A major milestone in this effort was the opening of the company’s Canadian headquarters in Toronto in 2024, enhancing its ability to serve customers across Canada while strengthening its North American support network.

As the company looks toward the future, it remains focused on developing advanced EDM and micromachining solutions that address the challenges facing modern manufacturers. Precision manufacturing continues to evolve rapidly, driven by increasing demands for complex geometries, tighter tolerances, automation, and digital integration. Sodick’s ongoing investments in research, development, and customer-focused innovation are intended to ensure that it remains at the forefront of these industry trends.

The company plans to showcase many of its latest technologies and innovations at IMTS 2026, one of the world’s largest manufacturing technology exhibitions. The event will provide an opportunity for customers and industry professionals to experience Sodick’s newest advancements in EDM, automation, and precision machining firsthand.

As it celebrates five decades of technological leadership, Sodick’s combination of experienced leadership, continued innovation, and customer-focused strategy positions the company for sustained growth in the years ahead. With Mark Sanhamel guiding operations across the Americas and a strong pipeline of advanced manufacturing technologies, Sodick is well placed to support the next generation of precision manufacturing while building on a legacy that has shaped the EDM industry for half a century.
