Toyota announced a nearly $8 billion investment that will create approximately 3,000 new jobs at Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC). This increases the overall investment to around $13.9 billion, with over 5,000 new jobs created. This investment expands the capacity for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). A total of ten battery lines will be added to the two previously announced BEV/PHEV battery production lines. Production will be raised in stages, with line releases planned until 2030 to attain a total annual production of more than 30 GWh.

Toyota announced the new Liberty location in 2021, in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho, with an initial investment of $1.29 billion for battery production and the creation of 1,750 new employees. The complex will total seven million square feet, which is equivalent to 121 football fields of battery manufacture. Toyota is said to have sold more than 24.6 million hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell, and battery electric vehicles worldwide. Every Toyota and Lexus model will have an electrified option by 2025, according to the firm.
