DMG MORI has introduced a new XXL travelling-column machining centre with a ±120-degree swivelling B-axis spindle head, capable of 4-axis machining of components up to 7.2 m long and weighing up to 12 tonnes, within a working volume of 6 by 1.1 by 1.05m. Of modular design, the DMF 600|11 can be specified as a 5 or 6-axis machine with one or two optional rotary NC positioning tables, or alternatively, torque tables for turning operations at up to 1,000rpm.
The rotary tables, each capable of supporting fixtured parts weighing two tonnes, are set flush with the fixed table at either or both ends. If a user opts for the twin-table configuration, a partition is available to divide the working area into two independent zones for pendulum machining. In times of increasing component diversity and more frequent production of one-offs, this ensures a high degree of flexibility and optimal utilisation of the production platform.
Spindle options are available to address different applications. Having speeds ranging from 15,000 to 20,000rpm, speedMASTER spindles are ideal for precision milling, while powerMASTER spindles with a torque of up to 430Nm enable heavy-duty machining of demanding materials.
As standard, the DMF 600|11 achieves rapid linear traverse speeds of 42m/min and acceleration of 4m/s² in all axes. An optionally available Dynamic Package increases these values to 80m/min in the X-axis and 60m/min in the Y- and Z-axes and elevates acceleration to 6 m/s².
The tool magazine has space for 40 ISO40 tools up to 400mm in length as standard. The magazine can be expanded to 300 tool positions, minimising setup times when there is significant variation in the types of components being produced.
