ISCAR Expands QUICKTHREAD Range with Multi-Tooth Threading Inserts for Faster Internal Threading!
ISCAR has expanded its QUICKTHREAD tooling portfolio with the introduction of new laydown multi-tooth threading inserts designed for internal threading applications. Developed to improve machining efficiency, reduce cycle times, and deliver high-quality thread profiles, the new inserts provide manufacturers with a productivity-focused solution for machining a wide variety of materials while remaining compatible with existing tooling systems.
Threading is one of the most critical operations in precision machining, where dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and process consistency are essential. However, conventional threading methods often require multiple machining passes to achieve the desired thread profile, resulting in longer cycle times and increased tool wear. ISCAR’s latest QUICKTHREAD inserts have been engineered to address these challenges by significantly reducing the number of passes required while maintaining exceptional thread quality and tool life.
The new laydown multi-tooth inserts are available in 16 mm, 22 mm, and 27 mm sizes and are manufactured using ISCAR’s proven IC908 PVD-coated carbide grade. Designed for versatility, the inserts are capable of machining a broad range of engineering materials, making them suitable for manufacturers operating across industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, oil and gas, energy, and precision engineering.
One of the key innovations of the QUICKTHREAD inserts is their two-pass machining strategy, which dramatically improves threading productivity. During the first machining pass, the insert removes approximately 66% to 75% of the thread material, leaving only 25% to 34% to be removed during the second and final pass. This optimised cutting strategy significantly reduces machining time while lowering the total number of threading passes compared with conventional single-tooth inserts. As a result, manufacturers can increase throughput, improve spindle utilisation, and reduce production costs without compromising thread quality.
The inserts are offered as full-profile threading tools, enabling the complete thread form to be generated accurately while simultaneously producing the thread crest. This eliminates the need for additional finishing operations and ensures consistent thread geometry across high-volume production runs. The product range supports several widely used thread standards, including ISO Metric, Unified, and National Pipe Taper (NPT) thread forms, allowing manufacturers to address diverse customer requirements with a single tooling platform.
To achieve superior dimensional accuracy and surface finish, the inserts feature fully ground cutting profiles. Precision grinding ensures accurate thread geometry and contributes to smoother thread surfaces, helping manufacturers meet demanding tolerance requirements for critical components. High-quality thread finishes also improve assembly performance and reduce the likelihood of thread-related failures in service.
Performance is further enhanced by ISCAR’s advanced IC908 carbide grade, which combines a fine sub-micron carbide substrate with a high-performance titanium aluminium nitride (TiAlN) Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) coating. This combination provides excellent wear resistance, high edge strength, and superior resistance to plastic deformation during machining. The advanced coating also minimises built-up edge formation, a common challenge when threading difficult-to-machine materials, helping maintain consistent cutting performance and extending tool life.
The IC908 grade has been developed to withstand demanding machining conditions, making the inserts suitable for both wet and dry machining operations. This flexibility enables manufacturers to optimise their production processes according to individual application requirements while maintaining reliable performance across a wide range of workpiece materials.
Another major advantage of the new QUICKTHREAD inserts is their compatibility with standard threading tool holders. Manufacturers can integrate the new inserts into existing machining setups without investing in new tool holders or modifying machine configurations. This interchangeability allows companies to upgrade their threading capabilities quickly and cost-effectively while minimising production disruption and tooling investment.
As manufacturers continue to pursue higher productivity and lower manufacturing costs, cutting tool innovations that reduce machining time without sacrificing quality are becoming increasingly valuable. Multi-tooth threading technology enables faster thread production while reducing machine occupancy, helping manufacturers increase output from existing equipment and improve overall operational efficiency.
The introduction of the new QUICKTHREAD multi-tooth inserts reflects ISCAR’s continued focus on delivering advanced cutting tool solutions that support modern manufacturing requirements. By combining innovative thread-cutting geometry, premium carbide technology, high-performance PVD coatings, and compatibility with existing tooling systems, the new inserts provide manufacturers with a practical solution for improving productivity, extending tool life, and achieving consistently high-quality internal threads across a broad range of industrial applications.
