BC Jindal Group has appointed Sanjay Bhargava as the new Chief Executive Officer of Jindal India Power Limited, strengthening leadership at a time when the company is focused on improving operational performance and expanding its presence in India’s power sector.

In his new role, Bhargava will oversee operations and strategic initiatives at the company’s 1,200 MW thermal power plant in Odisha, which consists of two 600 MW generating units. The appointment reflects the group’s focus on enhancing operational efficiency, improving plant performance, and supporting long-term growth across its energy business.

Commissioned in 2015, the Odisha-based power plant has steadily improved its Plant Load Factor (PLF) and operational performance over the years. The company aims to further strengthen efficiency, reliability, and commercial performance under Bhargava’s leadership as India’s power demand continues to grow.

Sanjay Bhargava brings more than 35 years of experience in the power and energy sector, with expertise spanning power plant operations, maintenance, business development, regulatory affairs, and sales strategy. Before joining Jindal India Power, he held leadership roles at major industry organisations including Tata Power, where he gained extensive experience managing large-scale power operations and strategic projects.

Company leadership stated that Bhargava’s deep understanding of India’s power industry and operational expertise are expected to support the company’s continued growth trajectory. The group emphasised that his leadership will help strengthen operational excellence while contributing to sustainable long-term business expansion.

Speaking about the appointment, Bhargava expressed confidence in the company’s future and highlighted his intention to work closely with the existing team to drive operational improvements and sustainable growth at the facility.

Jindal India Power has established a strong position in the Indian power market through multiple Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with state distribution companies (DISCOMs) and industrial consumers across regions including Bihar, Haryana, Delhi, and Noida. These agreements include short-term, medium-term, and long-term supply contracts, supporting stable power distribution and revenue generation.

Founded in 1952, BC Jindal Group has diversified operations across packaging films, steel, and energy sectors, becoming one of India’s established industrial conglomerates. The group continues to expand its footprint through investments in manufacturing, infrastructure, and power generation.

The leadership transition comes at a significant time for India’s power industry, as increasing industrialisation, infrastructure development, and energy demand create opportunities for operational improvements and capacity optimisation. Companies are also placing greater emphasis on efficient plant management, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability within the evolving energy landscape.

Overall, the appointment of Sanjay Bhargava as CEO signals Jindal India Power’s intention to strengthen operational leadership, improve plant efficiency, and reinforce its position within India’s growing power sector.
