Doncasters Announces $52 Million Investment to Transform Bochum Facility into Global Centre of Excellence

Doncasters, the international manufacturer of high-precision alloy components, has announced a landmark 52 million dollar investment in its Bochum site in Germany, representing one of the most significant capital programmes in the company’s history. Delivered over three years, the initiative will transform Bochum into one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities globally, capable of producing the most complex large industrial gas turbine castings currently in production, while supporting capacity growth and long-term development.

Work is already underway within the factory to prepare for new state of the art equipment. Additional directional solidification furnaces will be installed progressively from December, complementing an extra furnace already being fitted this year. This installation programme will continue over the next 12 to 18 months to ensure phased and efficient integration.

In spring 2026, ground works will commence for a new 3,000 square metre production hall, scheduled for completion by the end of the year. The new hall will enable the relocation of equipment from the main building and the introduction of large core manufacturing capabilities, forming the foundation of a Centre of Excellence for Core Manufacturing at Bochum.

By mid 2027, a fully automated shell line will be installed, with the overall investment programme extending into 2028. Together, these developments will significantly increase capacity, strengthen technical capability and position the Bochum site to capitalise on long-term growth opportunities.

Indy Rattu, Doncasters President Europe, said the new production hall will provide increased capacity and support committed customer volumes. He added that it forms part of a wider capital programme set to accelerate further in 2027 and 2028, firmly positioning Bochum at the forefront of Doncasters global capabilities.

The Bochum facility specialises in the manufacture of vacuum cast blades and vanes, along with the superalloys used in their production. The expansion will also create new employment opportunities across engineering, production and finishing, as Doncasters continues to grow its Bochum team. This investment marks a defining chapter for the site and reinforces Doncasters commitment to innovation, capability and sustainable growth.
