Bosch will demonstrate battery recycling technology at the Hannover Messe.

Bosch has announced that their industrial battery recycling technology will be showcased at the Hannover Messe from April 17 to April 21, 2023.

According to a corporate press release, it has created unique gear, equipment, and software for recycling lithium, cobalt, and nickel batteries.

These include, in addition to fully automated battery module discharging stations, ergonomically flexible workstations for technical analysis and safe battery disassembly, transfer systems for transporting batteries of various weight classes, and software to guide workers through the various process steps.

In addition, the company provides a track-and-trace solution for battery state, material origin, and processing status.

The subsidiary Bosch Rexroth supplies Battery Lifecycle Company, a joint venture between Remondis subsidiary TSR Recycling and Rhenus Automotive, with Europe’s first fully automated system for discharging and disassembling battery modules.

Battery Lifecycle Company is constructing a fully automated production in Magdeburg, with technology supplied by Bosch Rexroth. The site will test used batteries from various brands, deep-discharge them, and then shred them. The workpiece carriers at the new factory will each transport battery materials weighing up to 150 kg at a speed of 18 metres per second.

The model project in Magdeburg is the first to use this patented Bosch discharging solution: battery modules will be chemically deactivated in a reliable process, ensuring that further processing can occur without voltage. The modules’ residual energy can be used to power the recycling system.
