Makino has introduced the BX3, a state-of-the-art machine tailored for high-volume electro-discharge machining (EDM) drilling, specifically in the aero-engine sector. This machine is engineered to meet the exacting requirements of cooling film hole production, ensuring optimal performance in turbine blades and vanes where cycle time, consistency, and precision are paramount.
At the heart of the BX3 is its productivity-enhancing design. The machine boasts a fast ES200A generator capable of up to 100 Peak Amps, enabling efficient operations. It also features fully submerged operations with breakthrough detection in less than one second, enhancing precision and reducing cycle times.
Designed with a compact footprint, the BX3 includes a 2-axis rotary table optimized for minimal X/Y travel, contributing to its efficient workflow. Its 24-station automatic tool changer (ATC) accommodates electrodes up to 700mm, meeting diverse manufacturing needs. Ease of maintenance is ensured through rear access design.
The BX3 is equipped with the Hyper-i touchscreen control system, which offers integrated Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity. This feature allows for enhanced machine monitoring and data analysis, promoting intelligent manufacturing solutions.
Makino’s new offering is aimed at manufacturers scaling up production or aiming for tighter tolerances in demanding aerospace EDM applications. For those operating in northern UK regions, Christopher Cook is the contact for more information or to arrange a demonstration. Jon Marshall serves as the contact for all other parts of the UK.
NCMT, a leading provider in the manufacturing industry, represents Makino in the UK, ensuring that advanced solutions like the BX3 reach their intended market.
