Wheels India Strengthens Aluminium Alloy Wheel Capabilities Through Collaboration with Japan’s Topy Industries!
Wheels India has entered into a Technical Assistance Agreement with Topy Industries to accelerate its growth in the aluminium alloy wheels segment and deepen its technological capabilities. Under this collaboration, Topy Industries will provide engineering know-how, design expertise, and manufacturing support to help Wheels India enhance product development, process efficiency, and overall competitiveness in cast aluminium alloy wheels.
This partnership builds on Wheels India’s strategic push into aluminium alloy wheels, which began in FY21 with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Thervoy Kandigai, near Chennai. Initially, the company focused on supplying alloy wheels to the aftermarket in the United States and Europe, establishing its presence in demanding global markets. Over time, Wheels India has expanded its attention to the domestic OEM space, aligning its product portfolio with the evolving requirements of Indian automotive manufacturers.
The company has already started supplying aluminium alloy wheels to leading Indian OEMs such as Tata Motors and Stellantis. In addition, Wheels India has secured fresh orders from Hyundai and Volkswagen, with production and deliveries scheduled to commence in the next financial year. These wins underline the company’s growing credibility in the alloy wheel segment and reflect increasing acceptance of its products among global and domestic OEMs.
Commenting on the collaboration, Srivats Ram, Managing Director of Wheels India, highlighted that Topy Industries brings more than a century of experience and a strong global reputation in wheel manufacturing. He noted that access to Topy’s technical expertise will significantly strengthen Wheels India’s aluminium wheel operations, helping the company refine designs, adopt best-in-class manufacturing practices, and compete more effectively for new vehicle programs. The collaboration is also expected to improve Wheels India’s ability to meet stringent quality, performance, and durability standards required by global OEMs.
Beyond technology transfer, the agreement opens up opportunities for Wheels India to deepen its engagement with Japanese automotive manufacturers operating in India. According to the company, the partnership creates a strong platform to expand its footprint in the Japanese OEM ecosystem, particularly in the aluminium alloy wheel category, where technical precision and proven manufacturing processes are critical decision factors.
To support rising demand, Wheels India is in the process of expanding capacity at its Thervoy Kandigai facility from 5 lakh to 7 lakh alloy wheels per annum, with completion targeted by the end of the next quarter. Encouraged by strong order visibility and market potential, the company has also outlined plans to further scale capacity to 10 lakh wheels per annum by the end of FY27, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the segment.
This collaboration is not Wheels India’s first association with Topy Industries. The two companies already operate a joint venture in steel wheels through WIL Car Wheels Limited, where Wheels India holds a 74 percent stake. That venture primarily supplies steel wheels to Japanese OEMs in India, providing a strong foundation of trust and operational alignment. With the new technical collaboration in aluminium alloy wheels, Wheels India is positioning itself to leverage global expertise, scale operations, and strengthen its role as a key supplier to the evolving automotive industry.
