WFL Millturn Technologies Hosts Spectacular Exhibition at Linz Headquarters

Friday 22 March 2024, 2:14:23 PM

WFL Millturn Technologies GmbH & Co KG’s headquarters in Linz opened its doors for visitors and exhibitors, showcasing numerous machine and technology highlights from March 5-7, 2024. Over three days, attendees had the opportunity to explore the industry’s latest trends and developments in an expansive exhibition area spanning more than 4,000 m², providing a firsthand experience of WFL’s position as the world’s leading manufacturer in complete machining.

Automation:

The focus of the technology meeting was centered on the presentation of automation solutions by the company’s partner and subsidiary, FRAI. WFL showcased innovative articulated robots in a robot cell, demonstrating one of the most flexible variants of automation for production machines and processes. Regardless of limited access to the machine, complex movement sequences, short cycle times, or other additional tasks (deburring, cleaning, orientation, turning, etc.), the articulated robots always found their way. Another highlight was the live demonstration of a mobile robot built on an AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle), picking up chuck parts and tools from the warehouse and placing them on the AGV.

M20 up to M150 MILLTURN:

Visitors experienced the full range of machining in live demonstrations on machines of all sizes, from the M20 to the M150 MILLTURN. A special highlight was WFL’s latest family member: the M20 MILLTURN. With two additional center distances of two and three meters, it will also be available for longer shaft parts in the future. The optional individual tool carrier with B-axis for turning on the lower system was unique, enabling machining in all required angular positions on both spindles simultaneously.

Flanx – WFL Gearing Solutions:

In addition to the intelligent machining solutions of the M80X MILLTURN with 4,500 mm machining length and the M50 MILLTURN with 3,000 mm machining length, visitors could experience the WFL Flanx gearing solutions. They witnessed live machining operations using software cycles such as Flanx-Hob, Flanx-Spline, Flanx-Large Module, Flanx-Invo, Flanx-Gear Skiving, and Flanx-Measure. Flanx-Measure, a cycle package for scanning and measuring all relevant parameters, allowed for direct measurement on the WFL MILLTURN. The results were visualized on the control panel and recorded in a measurement report, ensuring and improving component quality.

myWFL – Operational Data Acquisition:

Users retrieved optimal information about machine productivity from the operational data acquisition system, myWFL Cockpit. Machine and program states over time, productivity, and technical availability were visualized on the machine control, on a PC, or on a mobile device using a browser. The software, which not only featured a user-friendly visualization but also improved machine utilization, collected and analyzed all data in the production environment to achieve higher productivity. With myWFL, users never lost track of the big picture and could exploit the optimization potential for the smart factory. The latest tool, myWFL Health Check, checked the machine geometry through semi-automatic measurement of the B-axis and tailstock, as well as the main and counter spindle. The software also included cycles and test equipment for measuring and logging the geometry, enabling the identification of long-term trends through integrated measurement data logging.
