Toyobo Expands Production Capacity for High-Performance Ceramic Capacitors!

Toyobo Co., Ltd. has inaugurated new production facilities at its Utsunomiya Plant in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, aimed at manufacturing films for multilayer ceramic capacitors. With commercial production slated to begin in spring 2025, the new facility supports Toyobo’s strategy to meet growing global demand driven by advanced IT equipment, AI servers, and data centers.

Ceramic capacitors are essential components for regulating electric current and storing energy across various electronic circuits. Their demand has surged alongside the expansion of high-performance IT infrastructure, AI advancements, and the electrification and automation of the automotive sector, which is anticipated to grow at over 7% annually. Toyobo’s new facility is dedicated to producing release films crucial to ceramic capacitor manufacturing. It employs both offline and inline coating methods to ensure superior film quality and production efficiency.

Aligned with its sustainability goals, Toyobo is working with customers to repurpose used release films. At the opening ceremony, Toyobo’s President and CEO, Ikuo Takeuchi, expressed the company’s commitment to bolstering its industrial film capabilities to support the evolution of the digital society and to flexibly meet diverse customer needs from mid-range to high-end applications.
