Tormach Unveils 15LX CNC Lathe with Higher Power, Speed, and Precision for Modern Machining!

Tormach Inc. has introduced its latest innovation in turning technology — the 15LX CNC Lathe — designed to deliver more power, faster speeds, and greater precision in a compact and robust form. With significant upgrades over its predecessor, the 15L, this new model offers the performance and control required for aggressive cutting in tough materials, making it an ideal choice for today’s demanding machining environments.

At the heart of the 15LX is a powerful spindle motor that delivers 6 horsepower of continuous duty and peaks up to 10 horsepower, allowing machinists to tackle hard metals with confidence. This increase in power provides the torque needed for heavy material removal and deep cuts without compromising accuracy. Complementing this strength are rapid feed rates that have been boosted sixfold — from 60 inches per minute to 360 inches per minute — on both the X and Z axes. The Z-axis travel has also been extended from 12 inches to 14 inches, expanding the range of parts that can be machined efficiently on this platform.

The 15LX integrates 23-bit absolute encoder servos on all axes and the turret, delivering smoother motion, improved repeatability, and faster, more reliable tool changes. These enhancements not only boost productivity but also ensure the precision and consistency that modern manufacturers demand.

In addition to its mechanical and control upgrades, the lathe includes a range of thoughtful design improvements aimed at enhancing usability and operator comfort. Standard features include a full enclosure, a sturdy stand with a chip tray, an automatic oiler, a turret, and a redesigned flood coolant system complete with an external washdown hose. The single pulley ratio eliminates manual gear changes, streamlining operations, while integrated load meters on both the axis and spindle provide real-time performance monitoring for proactive maintenance and optimized efficiency.

Engineered for versatility, the 15LX supports turret or gang tooling configurations and can be equipped with automation features such as collet closing and parts-catching systems. The lathe is compatible with accessories like oil skimmers, air guns, and upgraded gang tooling kits, ensuring adaptability for diverse manufacturing setups. Whether for prototyping, small-batch runs, or as part of a larger automated production cell, the 15LX offers a scalable solution that balances performance, flexibility, and reliability.
