Tata Power, one of India’s leading integrated power companies, has partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to enhance workforce readiness and skill development in India’s power sector. The focus of this partnership will be on training for green jobs and skill development in power transmission and distribution, aiming to increase employability in India’s evolving energy landscape.
Through this collaboration, Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) will act as NSDC’s training partner, offering industry-focused programs in green energy, power transmission, distribution, and industrial safety. These programs will provide hands-on training, equipping participants with practical skills that cater to the growing demands of the energy transition and the net-zero workforce.
TPSDI, which has already trained over 300,000 individuals, plays a significant role in addressing the skill gaps in the power sector. Tata Power plans to extend TPSDI’s reach by establishing more training centers across India, complementing the existing 11 centers to provide vocational training to a wider audience. The partnership will also introduce new training domains such as energy storage, green hydrogen, and pumped hydro, aligning with India’s green energy initiatives.
The agreement was signed at TPSDI’s Shahad training hub during the Institute’s Annual Meet, with key figures from Tata Power and NSDC in attendance. Himal Tewari, CHRO and Chief of Sustainability & CSR at Tata Power, emphasized the importance of this partnership in building a future-ready workforce for India’s evolving energy sector.
Nitin Kapoor from NSDC noted that the collaboration with TPSDI would help accelerate the creation of a digitally smart, energy-efficient workforce, further supporting India’s transition to clean energy. This partnership marks an important step in empowering youth and fostering sustainable growth in India’s power sector.
