Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced a significant leadership change for its Indian subsidiary, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL). Effective April 1, 2025, Takashi Nakajima will succeed Takuya Tsumura as President & CEO. This transition is part of Honda’s annual management reshuffle.
Tsumura, who completed a successful three-year tenure, will return to Honda’s Japan headquarters. Under his leadership, HCIL launched key models, including the Honda City e:HEV (India’s first mainstream hybrid), the Elevate SUV, and the updated Amaze. His tenure also saw HCIL strengthen its premium brand image, expand exports, and implement new marketing and operational strategies.
Nakajima, with over 30 years of experience at Honda, brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. He has held various leadership positions across international markets, including Japan, China, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Russia. Most recently, he served as President of Honda Motor Russia, overseeing product planning, marketing, and corporate communication for Honda’s domestic Japanese market.
This leadership change comes at a time when Honda Cars India reported positive export performance despite challenging domestic market conditions. Nakajima’s appointment reflects Honda’s continued commitment to the Indian market and its growth trajectory, as the company looks forward to leveraging new opportunities for success under his leadership.
