Swaraj Tractors, a prominent division of the Mahindra Group, has entered into a strategic collaboration with Mahindra Susten, the Group’s clean-tech arm, to develop Punjab’s largest solar group captive project. The initiative will feature a 26 MW solar energy installation in Bathinda district, marking a significant milestone in the company’s renewable energy journey.
This ambitious solar energy project aims to supply clean and sustainable power to four of Swaraj Tractors’ manufacturing facilities located in Mohali and Dera Bassi. Once fully operational, the solar installation is expected to generate approximately 60 million kWh of renewable energy annually. This will lead to a reduction of about 54,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions, contributing significantly to the company’s sustainability goals.
Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment Sector at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “With this groundbreaking solar project, we are taking a pioneering step in introducing green energy at such a large scale in tractor manufacturing for the first time in India. This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of Transforming Farming and Enriching Lives, while advancing toward a sustainable future.”
The solar project is a testament to Mahindra Group’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and climate action. By integrating renewable energy into its operations, Swaraj Tractors aims to scale up its renewable energy share to 50% of its total energy needs. This move sets a new benchmark for green energy adoption in India’s tractor manufacturing sector.
Gaganjot Singh, CEO of Swaraj Division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., emphasized, “This solar project is a testament to our unwavering commitment to creating a cleaner, greener future. By leveraging Mahindra Susten’s expertise, we are confident of achieving our renewable energy goals and making a significant contribution to Punjab’s evolving energy landscape.”
The project also marks Mahindra Susten’s entry into Punjab, further cementing its position as a leading renewable Independent Power Producer (IPP) in India. The collaboration between Swaraj Tractors and Mahindra Susten highlights the role of the private sector in India’s energy transition and sets an example for other manufacturing sectors to follow.
Deepak Thakur, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Susten Private Limited, commented on the collaboration, “At Mahindra Susten, our vision is to deliver clean and efficient energy solutions to the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) sector. We are proud to partner with Swaraj Tractors in their sustainability journey and bring our renewable energy expertise to Punjab. Together, we aim to drive the adoption of green energy and contribute to India’s transition toward a renewable future.”
As one of India’s pioneers in committing to 100% renewable energy adoption, the Mahindra Group continues to lead by example in sustainability and innovation. With the launch of this solar project, the group is poised to set new standards for integrating clean energy into manufacturing and industrial operations, helping India progress toward a more sustainable future.
