At PMTS 2025, Star CNC Machine Tool Corp. unveils its SD-26 Type S Swiss-type automatic lathe, engineered for high-precision machining of complex components up to 1″ in diameter (26 mm). This machine boasts a gate-shaped gang-style tool post featuring two B-axis stations capable of programmable simultaneous five-axis control, providing exceptional flexibility and versatility for a range of machining operations.
The first B-axis station is equipped with a dedicated four-spindle milling unit, which is supported from both the top and bottom ends to deliver superior rigidity during swivel machining. The second cartridge-type B-axis station offers a wide range of tool units, including the industry’s first twin-thread whirling unit, ideal for high-efficiency threading operations.
Key features of the SD-26 Type S include the ability to switch between guide bush and non-guide bush modes, which accommodates diverse machining requirements. The guide bush mode prevents material deflection, making it perfect for high-accuracy machining of long and narrow parts such as motor shafts. The non-guide bush mode allows for machining shorter parts directly from the main chuck, minimizing material waste by reducing the remnant length.
The machine’s design also enhances workability and operability, offering better access to both the guide bush and tool post area. The data input/output function streamlines the file loading process, allowing operators to combine NC programs with associated data like tool unit geometry and wear offset data. Additionally, the machine is equipped with support functions, such as a command help function, which assists operators in interpreting the program code, further improving ease of use and productivity.
