Soprema India Private Limited has inaugurated a new geocomposites manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The greenfield plant establishes a dedicated production hub for geocomposite solutions and strengthens the company’s alignment with India’s Make in India initiative by expanding local manufacturing capacity for infrastructure materials.

The state-of-the-art facility spans more than 11,000 square metres, with the first operational phase covering 1,750 square metres. It is designed to achieve an annual production capacity of approximately six million square metres of material. The plant features a fully automated production line for Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCM) and Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL). The system integrates advanced needle-punching technology with heavy-duty material handling systems to ensure precision, efficiency and consistent product quality.

Engineered to meet international standards, including CE certification requirements, the production line can manufacture rolls up to 5.9 metres wide. This capability reduces the number of seams required during installation, improving durability and performance in large-scale civil engineering and infrastructure applications.

According to Arkadiusz Gruszyński, Commercial Director at SEBAN by SOPREMA, the automated GCCM and GCL production line enhances the company’s ability to deliver high-performance geosynthetic solutions for infrastructure projects. He noted that the facility complements Soprema’s existing PVC Primatess geomembrane portfolio and supports sustainable and localized manufacturing in India.

The Ahmedabad plant will produce GCCM solutions used in ditch lining, slope protection and remediation projects, as well as GCL products incorporating bentonite clay for hydraulic barrier applications in landfills, ponds and canal systems. These geocomposite materials are critical in managing water containment, erosion control and environmental protection in infrastructure development. The new range integrates with Soprema’s existing waterproofing solutions, widely used in tunnels, basements and hydraulic structures.

Strategically located in Gujarat, the facility benefits from proximity to major ports such as Mundra and Nhava Sheva. This positioning enables efficient export logistics to Europe, Asia and the Middle East, while also reducing delivery timelines and transportation costs for domestic infrastructure projects. Local manufacturing further allows the company to tailor solutions to India’s varied soil conditions and climatic requirements.

The investment forms part of the broader Asia-Pacific expansion strategy of Soprema Group. The global group operates more than 100 factories and over 20 research and development centres worldwide and recently reported consolidated revenues of approximately EUR 4.82 billion.

With this new facility, Soprema India strengthens its position in the geosynthetics and waterproofing sector, supporting infrastructure growth while enhancing manufacturing capabilities and export competitiveness.
