Sodick Finalizes Acquisition of Prima Additive!

Sodick Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese manufacturer specializing in electric discharge machining (EDM) systems and high-precision machine tools, has completed the acquisition of Prima Additive. This transaction marks the departure of Prima Additive from the Prima Industrie Group, as it becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Sodick. Effective immediately, the company will operate under its new name: Prima Additive by Sodick.

The acquisition solidifies Sodick’s expansion in the additive manufacturing space. This move is expected to leverage the technological synergies between the two companies, accelerating Prima Additive’s growth, particularly in international markets. By integrating Prima Additive’s cutting-edge solutions with Sodick’s established global reach and technical expertise, the partnership is poised to drive innovation and expand the scope of additive manufacturing technologies worldwide.

Prima Additive is well-regarded for its turnkey solutions in Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) and Direct Energy Deposition (DED) technologies. The company has been at the forefront of several European innovation projects and is known for its advanced laser processes, including remote laser welding for e-mobility and laser surface treatment for tooling and industrial components. The addition of Sodick’s resources will enable Prima Additive to scale its operations and technologies, driving faster adoption of these processes across various industries globally.

The acquisition will allow Prima Additive to capitalize on Sodick’s global distribution network to expand its footprint in the additive manufacturing sector, further strengthening its presence in the market. The partnership also opens doors to explore synergies in product development, technology integration, and cross-market collaborations. This strategic acquisition follows Prima Additive’s merger with Italian startup 3D New Technologies (3D-NT) in 2022, enhancing its capabilities in the powder bed fusion market and positioning the company for future growth.

With Sodick’s backing, Prima Additive is well-positioned to continue its research and development (R&D) initiatives aimed at pushing the boundaries of laser technologies and driving sustainable manufacturing. The company’s laser technology advancements for industries like e-mobility and tooling make it an essential player in the growing market for high-performance, eco-friendly manufacturing solutions.

This acquisition by Sodick represents a major milestone in the additive manufacturing industry. As Prima Additive transitions into Prima Additive by Sodick, the company is poised for accelerated global expansion, leveraging its advanced manufacturing technologies and Sodick’s resources to meet the rising demand for sustainable, high-performance solutions in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and industrial tooling.
