SME, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing manufacturing technology and fostering talent in North America, has announced the appointment of Jeannine Kunz as the new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2025. Kunz will succeed Robert “Bob” Willig, who is retiring at the end of 2024 after a successful tenure.
Kunz brings over 24 years of manufacturing experience to her new role, having most recently served as SME’s Chief Workforce Development Officer. She has led strategic workforce development initiatives, working both nationally and locally to create comprehensive, systematic approaches to workforce challenges. Known for her collaborative leadership style, Kunz holds prominent industry positions, including board roles with the Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group, Coalition for Career Development, and co-chairing the Smart Manufacturing Executive Council.
Winston F. Erevelles, PhD, SME President, expressed confidence in Kunz’s leadership, stating, “Her extraordinary vision has helped SME move to the forefront of the manufacturing industry as thought leaders and doers. We are confident that Jeannine will ensure the long-term success of SME.”
Kunz is recognized as an expert in manufacturing innovation, technology adoption, and workforce development. She is passionate about addressing manufacturing challenges and leveraging opportunities through collaboration and industry partnerships.
Outgoing CEO Bob Willig remarked, “Jeannine is an inspiring, collaborative, and committed leader who will ensure SME continues to play an important role in the advancement of the industry and the nation.”
Kunz expressed her excitement about the future of SME, saying, “I am truly honored to take on this role and lead SME into its next 100 years.
