Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has commenced production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The move reinforces the Group’s “Make in India, for India and the world” strategy, combining high levels of localisation with global manufacturing standards.

The latest version of the Taigun builds on the strong success of its predecessor, introducing refreshed styling and enhanced features to better meet the evolving expectations of Indian consumers. Engineered to handle diverse road and driving conditions across the country, the SUV continues to reflect Volkswagen’s core strengths of European engineering, superior driving dynamics, comfort, and high safety standards.

According to Piyush Arora, the start of production underscores the maturity and capability of the company’s manufacturing ecosystem in India. He highlighted that the Group’s facilities are fully equipped to deliver vehicles that meet global benchmarks while remaining agile enough to respond to both domestic and export market demands. The Taigun, he noted, represents a balance of engineering excellence and efficient, high-quality production processes.

Nitin Kohli, Brand Director for Volkswagen India, emphasised the strategic importance of the Taigun within the brand’s SUV portfolio. He pointed out that the model has played a key role in addressing the preferences of Indian customers and continues to support Volkswagen’s growth ambitions in the country. The start of production at the Chakan facility further reflects the company’s commitment to delivering premium, German-engineered vehicles tailored specifically for the Indian market.

Since its launch in 2021, the Volkswagen Taigun has established a strong presence in India’s competitive SUV segment. The model has been widely recognised for its performance, comfort, and safety features, contributing to its sustained popularity among buyers. To date, more than 143,000 units have been manufactured in India, with nearly 30 percent of production exported to international markets, highlighting India’s role as a key manufacturing and export hub for the brand.

Overall, the production of the new Taigun at the Pune facility not only strengthens Volkswagen’s position in India’s SUV market but also reflects the growing capability of the country’s automotive manufacturing sector to deliver world-class vehicles for both local and global markets.
