Siemens Digital Industries Software has officially completed its acquisition of DownStream Technologies, a leading provider of manufacturing data preparation solutions for printed circuit board (PCB) design. This acquisition enhances Siemens’ PCB design portfolio and solidifies its presence in the small and medium-sized business (SMB) market within the electronics industry.
Mike Ellow, CEO of Siemens EDA, commented on the significance of the acquisition: “This acquisition is a major step forward for Siemens EDA in addressing the needs of the mid-sized PCB market. By integrating DownStream Technologies, we are able to offer an advanced and comprehensive solution for manufacturing data preparation, which helps ensure a seamless transition from design to production within a fully digitalized and scalable process.”
Founded in 2002 and based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, DownStream Technologies is widely known for its CAM350 suite of tools, which allow users to visualize, verify, and automatically prepare PCB design data for fabrication. The company’s BluePrint-PCB tool, a patented documentation solution, automates the creation of highly detailed manufacturing documents, reducing errors and enhancing the efficiency of the PCB development process.
The integration of BluePrint-PCB with Siemens’ PCB design solutions is expected to offer a fully integrated workflow, enhancing digital continuity and manufacturing readiness for customers. This collaboration aims to streamline the entire PCB design-to-manufacturing process, enabling designers to deliver high-quality designs more efficiently and confidently.
Rick Almeida, founder of DownStream Technologies, expressed excitement about joining forces with Siemens: “We’re thrilled to bring our expertise into Siemens’ world-class ecosystem. Together, we’ll provide a solution that combines depth and breadth, empowering PCB designers to deliver designs to manufacturing with greater speed and confidence.”
