Sandvik Coromant Enhances Turning Adapters with Upgraded Damping Mechanism!

Sandvik Coromant has announced significant upgrades to the damping mechanism of its Silent Tools turning adapters, specifically designed to improve performance and surface finish during internal turning operations at long overhangs. The new improvements provide better consistency and repeatability for machining, particularly when dealing with challenging length-to-diameter ratios.

The updated adapters, which cover 33 cylindrical and Coromant Capto items in diameters from 16 to 25 mm (⅝”-1″), integrate seamlessly with the company’s latest generation of CoroTurn SL cutting heads. These heads feature side-oriented internal through coolant, further enhancing the system’s overall functionality. The Silent Tools toolholding system effectively dampens vibrations, enabling higher performance in long overhang machining, a critical aspect for many turning operations.

The combination of the upgraded Silent Tools turning adapters and the CoroTurn SL cutting heads offers improved stability, reduced scrap, and minimized downtime due to better chip control. Daniel Conessa, Sandvik Coromant’s Global Product Manager for Turning, explained that this collaboration between the damping adapters and cutting heads enhances component quality, increases machining stability, and reduces unnecessary rework.

Additionally, the new generation of CoroTurn SL cutting heads, available in sizes 16 and 20 mm, has been developed to provide enhanced chip control and improve machining efficiency. These cutting heads now integrate more effectively with the Silent Tools technology, optimizing performance for small diameter boring and reducing the risk of unplanned machine stops.

With these enhancements, Sandvik Coromant aims to offer a more reliable, high-performing product that boosts productivity and supports the machining industry’s drive for precision and efficiency in long overhang operations.
