Romi USA has introduced the DCM 620-5X, a five-axis vertical machining centre designed to combine machining flexibility with high-performance capability for manufacturers producing complex components. The new platform is engineered to support both simultaneous five-axis machining and traditional five-sided operations, enabling manufacturers to complete intricate parts in a single setup.

The machine is designed to handle parts with complex geometries across a wide range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical and general precision engineering. By enabling multi-axis machining in a single setup, the system helps reduce manual repositioning, minimize setup time and improve overall machining accuracy.

The DCM 620-5X features a rigid cast-iron machine structure that enhances stability during cutting operations. Linear roller guides on the X, Y and Z axes support smooth and precise movement while maintaining high rigidity for demanding machining tasks. The machine also includes a high-stiffness rotary and tilting table driven by independent B and C axes, enabling precise positioning and full multi-axis movement during machining.

A direct-drive ISO 40 spindle powers the machining center, delivering speeds of up to 15,000 RPM through a 22-horsepower motor. This spindle configuration supports high-speed machining while maintaining consistent cutting performance across a variety of materials.

To maintain machining accuracy during extended production cycles, the machine incorporates an integrated thermal compensation system. The system continuously monitors operating conditions and automatically applies real-time adjustments to compensate for temperature changes that could affect precision.

The rotary table measures 600 by 600 millimeters and is capable of supporting workpieces weighing up to 500 kilograms. The B-axis provides movement ranging from minus 50 degrees to plus 110 degrees, while the C-axis allows full 360-degree rotation. This configuration gives operators access to multiple surfaces of the workpiece without the need for manual repositioning, improving both productivity and accuracy.

Machine control is handled through the Siemens Sinumerik One platform, which features a 24-inch color display designed to provide intuitive machine operation and programming capabilities.

The DCM 620-5X is also equipped with a 30-tool automatic tool changer, allowing quick switching between tools during complex machining operations. This capability supports uninterrupted production workflows and enhances the machine’s versatility for multi-step machining processes.

By combining rigid construction, advanced spindle technology, multi-axis flexibility and intelligent control systems, the DCM 620-5X is designed to help manufacturers improve efficiency, reduce setup times and achieve high-precision results when machining complex parts.
