In a move set to transform India’s manufacturing capabilities, Phillips Machine Tools has announced a strategic collaboration with Japan’s Nakamura-Tome Precision Industry Co., Ltd.—a globally renowned name in multitasking CNC machining. Through this partnership, Indian manufacturers will gain access to Nakamura-Tome’s advanced turn-mill technologies, capable of performing turning, milling, threading, and drilling in a single setup—ushering in a new era of high-precision, high-efficiency production.

Founded in 1949, Nakamura-Tome is globally recognized for its cutting-edge multitasking machines that deliver exceptional precision and performance. These machines are already used by top manufacturers worldwide, and with Phillips as the official partner for Gujarat, North, and East India, their reach will now expand across key Indian manufacturing hubs. This collaboration is particularly targeted at high-growth sectors like aerospace, automotive, medical, and precision engineering, where complexity, tight tolerances, and efficient cycle times are critical.

“Everyone in the machine tool world knows Nakamura-Tome for its unmatched multitasking technology,” said Terrence Miranda, Managing Director, Phillips Machine Tools India. “These machines run 24/7 with unmatched reliability. This partnership completes our metal cutting portfolio and allows us to support customers who need fully integrated, multitasking solutions.”

Among the machines being introduced is the AS-200, a compact yet powerful multitasking machine that embodies the Nakamura-Tome philosophy of combining operations into one efficient setup. It dramatically reduces the need for multiple machines and manual handling, enabling manufacturers to go from raw material to finished part in a fraction of the time. This kind of productivity is vital for high-value export markets and for Indian manufacturers aiming to scale global competitiveness.

Nakamura-Tome’s lineup also includes:

  • Single-turret machines for compact spaces with optional sub-spindles and milling capability
  • WT and WY series machines offering dual spindles, Y-axis on one or both turrets, and up to 48 tools for simultaneous machining
  • ATC-equipped multitasking machines with large tool magazines and NT Smart Cube design—featuring the shortest tool spindle in its class—for complex, high-speed operations

These platforms allow manufacturers to choose machines that best align with their part geometry, production volumes, and factory floor size. Phillips backs this range with strong local support, offering consulting, application engineering, and automation integration through a dedicated Nakamura-Tome team.

“This is not just about selling machines,” said Mr. Shogo Nakamura, CEO and President of Nakamura-Tome. “It’s about delivering intelligent manufacturing solutions. The AS-200, for example, can machine large, complex parts in one go—a perfect example of smart, integrated production.”

The collaboration is a result of a long-standing relationship built on mutual trust and a shared vision of empowering next-generation manufacturing in India. Mr. Nakamura emphasized the strategic alignment between the companies, stating, “Phillips has a deep understanding of the Indian market and shares our commitment to quality and innovation. Together, we aim to deliver real impact.”

As part of the vision, Phillips aims to offer not only multitasking machines but fully tooled and automated solutions tailored to customer needs. This includes training, programming support, and turnkey project delivery. The goal is to establish multitasking as the preferred strategy for manufacturers focused on performance, precision, and productivity.

With this partnership, Phillips Machine Tools and Nakamura-Tome are set to drive India’s transformation into a smart manufacturing powerhouse—combining technology, expertise, and customer-centricity to build the factories of the future.
