A new organization to support the success of hyper MILL ^®

Wessling (Germany), September 18, 2020 – The French subsidiary of OPEN MIND is transferring its head office and setting up in new premises in the Lyon region (69 Limas). The subsidiary, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019, is organizing itself to respond to the strong evolution in demand for its hyper MILL ^® CAM solution .

Brand new, easily accessible, spacious premises, including a well-equipped training room. A new organization and a reinforced team, both technically and commercially. Everything is in place at OPEN MIND France for this September start. But what are the reasons for success?

hyper MILL ^® – high performance features

In terms of product, the CAM hyper MILL ^{® solution} is increasingly popular, in particular with the innovations in “  High precision milling  ” which are of particular interest to the world of molds and tooling. Also in the medical sector where the solution is increasingly used for instrumentation and prostheses, not to mention micro-mechanics. High-precision milling makes it possible to drastically improve the quality of the surfaces obtained, directly in machining, and consequently to avoid the generally expensive and time-consuming manual operations which increase delays (polishing, in particular).

Also worth mentioning is the interest of users in the simulation solution offered by the software, called ”  hyper MILL ^® VIRTUAL Machining Center “. This solution takes into account the exact kinematics of the machine for the generated ISO code, guarantees the reliability of the toolpaths and allows working in complete safety. This is particularly true for continuous 5-axis machining because it is simulated using the digital twin of the machine.

Finally, the “  hyper MILL ^® Automation Center” automation functions have met with great success. They make it possible to define and standardize the programming processes and to capitalize on the uses specific to each company.

75 dedicated people 100% dedicated to innovation and hyper MILL ^{® development}

It must be said that, unlike many of its colleagues, OPEN MIND devotes 100% of its activity to a single product: the CAM hyper MILL ^® . The German group, which has around 400 people, is present in all industrialized countries. It is part of the top 5 publishers of the CIMDATA 2020 study (in terms of turnover).

All the functionalities made available in hyper MILL ^® were developed by OPEN MIND. The company does not depend on any external solution. It is completely autonomous in innovation and flexible for developments requested by customers.

The same is true of partners. In Germany, Italy and Japan, major machine tool builders and cutting tool manufacturers use hyper MILL ^® to highlight the strengths of their own products in their customer trials.

The OPEN MIND R&D team represents around 60 people, to which must be added 15 people for basic research (innovation). It should be remembered that OPEN MIND is at the origin of the “  conical barrel milling cutter  ”, – for which certain functions have been the subject of a patent application – available since 2018 and increasingly used. For an identical finish quality, this cutter allows up to 80% savings in machining time.

From VSEs to Large Groups: service, the DNA of OPEN MIND

If the customer base of OPEN MIND France remains mainly made up of VSEs and SMEs, the hyper MILL ^® solution is now recognized and used by large groups. The latter have a more sophisticated approach, they analyze each product in detail before integrating it.

In order to maintain a quality of service that corresponds to each type of customer and to cover the entire French territory, it was necessary to increase the workforce and review the organization. The technical team has been reinforced in order to respond to the numerous requests for software discovery (benchmark, needs analysis phase). This pre-sales approach, carried out by hyper MILL ^® and machining experts , ensures that everything is implemented, at the customer’s site, to meet their needs and ensure a rapid ROI. .

A deployment plan for an easy transition from an existing system to hyper MILL ^®

Fabrice Fillardet notes that hyper MILL ^® is being installed more and more to replace existing CAM systems. In order to support customers in this process, a deployment plan is proposed to the customer to ensure the transition from one software to another, particularly in terms of training and rapid development of post-processors.

To cope with this significant demand and the increase in customer volume (multiplied by 3.5 over the past 6 years), the teams of trainers and technical support have been expanded. A group of specialists is now dedicated to the development of personalized post-processors, as part of a very specific internal process, in order to guarantee the fastest possible transition.

In short, everything has been designed to reassure companies that want to change their CAM system, with the guarantee of a fast but smooth transition, managed by a dedicated team.
