Olectra Greentech has marked a significant milestone in India’s electric mobility journey with the commencement of Phase I commercial operations at its new greenfield electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Seetharampur, Hyderabad, Telangana. Operations at the plant began on December 31, 2025, and the development has been formally communicated to its lender, State Bank of India, underscoring the project’s transition from development to execution. The start of operations reflects Olectra Greentech’s readiness to scale manufacturing capacity in line with the rapidly growing demand for electric buses across Indian cities.

The Hyderabad facility has been designed as a large-scale, future-ready manufacturing hub to support India’s shift toward clean and sustainable public transport. In its first phase, the plant is capable of producing up to 2,500 electric buses annually on a single-shift basis. This represents half of the site’s planned full capacity of 5,000 buses per year, which will be achieved once subsequent phases of expansion are completed. The phased approach allows Olectra Greentech to align capital investment, workforce ramp-up, and supply chain integration with confirmed demand from state transport undertakings and city-level electric bus programs.

The commissioning of Phase I is particularly timely as electric buses gain wider acceptance across urban transport networks in India. With central and state governments accelerating the adoption of zero-emission buses to reduce pollution and operating costs, manufacturers with proven capacity and execution capability are increasingly in focus. The new Hyderabad plant strengthens Olectra Greentech’s manufacturing base, improves production resilience, and enhances its ability to execute large orders within compressed timelines.

Beyond capacity expansion, the facility is expected to deliver operational benefits through improved layout, modern manufacturing practices, and proximity to key supplier and logistics networks. This should translate into better cost control, higher throughput, and consistent product quality as volumes scale up. The plant also supports Olectra Greentech’s broader strategy of deepening domestic manufacturing, reducing dependence on imports, and contributing to India’s ambitions of building a strong indigenous electric vehicle ecosystem.

The start of operations at the Hyderabad hub also signals steady progress in the company’s capital expenditure plans, which are closely tied to the long-term growth of electric public transport in India. As cities continue to transition their bus fleets from diesel to electric, reliable domestic manufacturing capacity becomes critical—not only to meet demand but also to ensure lifecycle support, maintenance, and fleet uptime. Olectra Greentech’s expanded capacity positions it as a key partner for transport authorities seeking to scale electric mobility solutions sustainably.

From an industry perspective, the project reinforces confidence in India’s electric bus market, which is moving from pilot deployments to large, multi-year procurement programs. The Hyderabad facility is expected to play an important role in supporting these programs by ensuring timely deliveries and supporting the localisation of EV manufacturing capabilities. It also contributes to regional economic development through job creation and the strengthening of ancillary industries linked to EV production.

Overall, the commencement of Phase I operations at Olectra Greentech’s Hyderabad plant represents more than just an increase in manufacturing capacity. It reflects the company’s readiness to expand its role in India’s electric mobility ecosystem at a time when clean public transport is becoming a central pillar of urban development strategies. As demand for electric buses continues to rise, the new facility positions Olectra Greentech to respond at scale and support India’s transition toward greener, more sustainable mobility solutions.
