At its production location in Dayton, Tennessee, Nokian Tyres has started building a finished goods warehouse that can contain up to 600,000 tyres. The facility will be ready for use by mid-2024.
Nokian Tyres and its design-build construction firm, BC Construction Group (Brighton, MI), broke ground in early March on the 350,000 square-foot warehouse, designed by Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects. Nokian Tyres is continuing its long-term partnership with Faithful+Gould to provide project management services for the facility.
The 350,000 square foot finished products warehouse is scheduled to be completed in mid-2024 thanks to the collaboration between Nokian Tyres and BC Construction Group, a design-build construction company.
The new storage facility will be next to the Nokian Tyres factory in Dayton, which is currently expanding output to produce up to four million tyres annually by 2024. The international tyre manufacturer is adding 125 team members to its Southeast Tennessee location, bringing the total number of workers there to 475.
The new storage area will support a rising number of consumers in the sun belt and will be one of the company’s nine warehouses in the U.S. and Canada.
Tommi Heinonen, vice president of passenger car and LT tyres at Nokian Tyres, said, “As Nokian Tyres expands in Southeast Tennessee and across North America, this storage warehouse will assist us handle the growing amount of tyres flowing to our clients. “It’s another step in our effort to provide North American drivers with safe, environmentally friendly tyres.”
The warehouse is a high-tech addition to the Dayton Factory, one of the most cutting-edge and environmentally friendly tyre manufacturing plants in the world. Tires will be transported automatically from the factory to the warehouse via an overhead bridge that connects the two structures. At the warehouse, they will be automatically stacked into steel storage racks without being touched by hand.
