New York State Police has placed an order for one Airbus H160 and three H145 helicopters, becoming the first law enforcement agency in the United States to introduce the advanced H160 into operational service. This latest acquisition builds on an earlier order of two H145 helicopters in 2024, as the agency continues its effort to modernise and expand its aviation fleet.
The New York State Police Aviation Unit, established in 1931, supports law enforcement across the state and provides vital life-saving and environmental conservation missions. With the addition of the H160 and more H145s, the unit is enhancing its ability to respond to diverse and challenging operational demands.
Bart Reijnen, Head of Airbus Helicopters, North America, commented:
“New York State Police are setting a new standard in the law enforcement industry with the H160, which features the highest levels of innovation. These additions will significantly enhance safety and comfort for crews, and the public will benefit from reduced sound levels.”
The Airbus H160 is one of the most technologically advanced helicopters in the world, built with safety, versatility, and passenger comfort in mind. It is suited for a broad range of missions, including law enforcement, search and rescue, offshore transport, medical services, and private aviation. The H160 is already in service globally, including in Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and the USA, among others.
Meanwhile, the H145 family has long been a trusted workhorse for airborne public services. With over 1,740 units in operation worldwide, and more than 200 dedicated to law enforcement and public service missions, the H145 is known for its reliability, operational flexibility, and efficiency.
Powered by twin Safran Arriel 2E engines, the H145 is equipped with full authority digital engine control (FADEC) and Airbus’s Helionix digital avionics suite, enhancing pilot situational awareness and safety. Additionally, the H145 boasts the lowest CO₂ emissions in its class, making it a more sustainable choice for modern operations.
With this order, New York State Police reaffirms its position at the forefront of law enforcement aviation, embracing next-generation technology to better serve the people of New York State.
