AESC UK has officially inaugurated a new battery manufacturing plant in Sunderland, marking a significant milestone in the UK’s electric vehicle industry. The newly launched 15.8 GWh gigafactory will produce lithium-ion batteries destined for electric vehicles manufactured in the UK, including the popular Nissan LEAF model.
With production now underway, AESC UK plans to increase its workforce to approximately 1,000 employees when the plant reaches full operational capacity. This represents a fourfold increase in staffing levels since AESC first established operations at the Sunderland site in 2019. Over this period, the company has invested more than one billion pounds in the UK, underscoring its commitment to the region and the growth of the electric vehicle market.
The Sunderland plant is expected to play a pivotal role in the UK’s transition towards cleaner transport solutions. The factory’s capacity will provide essential support to the expanding market for electric vehicles in the country, boosting the local economy and reinforcing the UK’s position in the global supply chain for electric vehicle components.
AESC’s investment aligns with the broader industry trend towards sustainable and renewable energy solutions, and the company’s expansion at the Sunderland site highlights its strategic focus on innovation and growth. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, the new facility is anticipated to meet both current and future needs of the automotive industry.
