The Nakamura-Tome NT-Flex, introduced in the U.S. by Methods Machine Tools Inc., represents a significant addition to the multitasking machine landscape. Designed specifically for high-mix, small-batch production environments, the NT-Flex combines a two-turret, two-spindle architecture with advanced milling and turning capabilities, offering shops a powerful, flexible platform for tackling increasingly complex part requirements.

What sets the NT-Flex apart is its ability to blend traditional multitasking operations with features typically associated with Swiss-style machining. The machine incorporates Y-axis milling, allowing it to perform precision cuts and intricate operations that would often require more specialized equipment. According to Methods, the NT-Flex can effectively handle part diameters ranging from 25 mm to 38 mm, where traditional Swiss-style machines may face limitations in rigidity and cutting power. This capability gives manufacturers the freedom to produce small, precise parts without compromising on stability or performance.

Beyond cutting capability, the NT-Flex is engineered with an operator-friendly work envelope. Its compact size and improved accessibility reduce the time and effort typically associated with toolholder and part changeovers. This advantage is especially valuable in small-batch production, where frequent setup changes are part of daily operations and efficiency gains directly influence productivity.

To enhance throughput even further, Methods Automation Services can equip the NT-Flex with bar feeders, parts collection tables, and the machine’s built-in Parts Catcher G. These automation options allow shops to run the NT-Flex in continuous, unattended cycles — a major benefit for companies looking to extend production hours without adding labor. This capability unlocks higher machine utilization, reduced downtime, and the potential for lights-out operation.

The NT-Flex is available for direct purchase through Methods Machine Tools and its network of authorized dealers, including Maruka USA, Meredith Machinery, MTA Machinery Inc., and OptiPro Systems. Its release marks the third Nakamura-Tome platform introduced in the U.S. market by Methods this year, following the launch of the JX-200 B-axis machining center and the NTY3-100V twin-spindle series.

With its combination of multitasking performance, operator-focused design, and automation-ready architecture, the NT-Flex strengthens Nakamura-Tome’s presence in the flexible machining segment. It offers manufacturers a reliable and highly capable system for producing complex parts across a wide variety of materials and applications, reinforcing Methods’ ongoing commitment to delivering advanced solutions tailored to evolving production demands.
