Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Expands Operations in Pittsburgh!

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) is set to invest $86 million in constructing an advanced switchgear factory and expanding its existing power electronics business in the Pittsburgh region. The project is expected to create 200 new jobs and retain 806 existing jobs. The new facility will produce essential grid products like gas-insulated and vacuum circuit breakers to meet growing demand driven by the U.S. shift toward renewable energy and decarbonization.

Governor Josh Shapiro’s administration is supporting the expansion with a $6.7 million investment, including grants from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). The investment is part of Pennsylvania’s broader Economic Development Strategy, which targets growth in energy and manufacturing sectors. The expansion strengthens Pittsburgh’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and energy innovation.

Tricia Breeger, President and CEO of MEPPI, emphasized that the new factory will help advance the nation’s decarbonization goals and improve grid infrastructure. The project also highlights the importance of sustainable energy solutions as the demand for electricity increases across various sectors, including data centers.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for MEPPI, continuing the company’s legacy of providing cutting-edge solutions to support the growth of North America’s energy infrastructure.
