Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has formalized a three-year memorandum of understanding with Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), establishing a structured framework for collaboration in advanced science and engineering research through February 2029. The agreement covers joint research initiatives, academic exchange programmes and technology development in high-impact areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and cybersecurity.

The partnership is designed to accelerate the translation of academic research into practical industrial applications while nurturing the next generation of research and development talent. By combining IITH’s academic expertise with Mitsubishi Electric’s industrial capabilities, the collaboration aims to drive innovation and support sustainable technological progress.

Founded in 2008 as part of India’s prestigious IIT system, IITH has built a strong reputation in science, engineering and energy research. The institute actively promotes entrepreneurship and maintains collaborative relationships with Japanese universities and corporations, creating a solid foundation for deeper engagement with Mitsubishi Electric.

The two organizations have previously worked together through internship programmes and joint research projects, including autonomous navigation initiatives conducted with the Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation (TiHAN) at IITH. The expanded agreement broadens the scope of cooperation, reinforcing long-term academic–industry collaboration and advancing research with real-world applications.

Headquartered in Tokyo and established in 1921, Mitsubishi Electric operates across sectors including industrial automation, energy systems, factory automation, air conditioning, elevators and escalators, automotive equipment and space systems. The new research partnership reflects the company’s commitment to global collaboration and its focus on applying advanced technologies to address evolving industry needs.

Through this three-year engagement, both institutions aim to strengthen innovation ecosystems, promote knowledge exchange and develop scalable technologies that support industrial growth and societal advancement.
