Micro Bird, a Quebec-based joint venture between Blue Bird Corp. and Girardin, has announced plans to expand its manufacturing operations by establishing a new facility in Plattsburgh, New York. The company has acquired the Nova Bus facility, which will be repurposed to produce both electric and non-electric versions of its current bus models. This follows Nova Bus’s announcement to cease operations at the site in 2025.
The investment is part of Micro Bird’s strategic initiative to double production capacity and address the increasing demand for its products. The expansion will generate significant economic benefits for the region, including the creation of more than 350 full-time jobs over the next several years. The company also plans to hire many of the current Nova Bus Plattsburgh employees, ensuring a smooth transition for the workforce.
Site preparation will commence in January 2025, with production expected to begin by summer 2025. The facility will play a critical role in supporting Micro Bird’s efforts to meet growing demand while reinforcing its commitment to manufacturing excellence and innovation.
This expansion highlights Micro Bird’s dedication to sustainability and growth, leveraging its new facility to manufacture cutting-edge bus solutions that cater to evolving transportation needs. By investing in Plattsburgh, Micro Bird is not only boosting its production capabilities but also contributing to the economic vitality of the region.
