Velo3D, Inc., a leader in additive manufacturing (AM) technology, has announced that Mears Machine Corporation, a precision machining leader based in Indianapolis, Indiana, has purchased its fourth Sapphire XC printer. This latest acquisition further strengthens Mears Machine’s additive manufacturing capabilities in response to growing customer demand. Mears Machine had previously purchased three Velo3D Sapphire XCs in 2024.
As the demand for advanced manufacturing technologies like 3D printing increases in the precision machine shop sector, Velo3D has proven to be an essential partner for Mears Machine. Arun Jeldi, CEO of Velo3D, expressed his excitement about the ongoing collaboration, stating, “Our partnership with Mears Machine highlights the sales momentum for our technology and showcases the value that our additive manufacturing solutions bring to manufacturers seeking to enhance productivity, scale operations, and foster innovation.”
The new Velo3D Sapphire XC at Mears Machine will be optimized to produce parts using nickel super-alloy H282, which is known for its strength, thermal stability, and resistance to oxidation, making it ideal for high-temperature applications such as aerospace propulsion systems, industrial power generation, and defense sectors.
Mears Machine’s use of the Sapphire XC has enabled the company to meet evolving customer needs and attract new industries. Roger Mears, Executive Chairman of Mears Machine, said, “Integrating the Velo3D Sapphire XC printer into our operations has enabled us to address our customers’ demands for complex, high-quality components efficiently. This technology, combined with our world-class machining capabilities, positions us as a leading partner in the additive manufacturing space.”
The Velo3D Sapphire XC is a game-changer in the laser powder bed fusion industry, boasting eight 1-kilowatt lasers and the ability to produce large parts with dimensions of up to 600 mm in diameter and 550 mm in height, with an option for 1,000 mm in height. This scalability and precision make it ideal for industries requiring high-performance parts at a lower cost while addressing supply chain challenges.
Velo3D is revolutionizing the way high-value metal parts are manufactured through its metal 3D printing solutions. Velo3D’s technology empowers industries such as space exploration, aviation, power generation, energy, and semiconductor to innovate by enabling the production of mission-critical components previously deemed impossible. The company’s fully integrated solution, which includes Flow print preparation software, the Sapphire family of printers, and the Assure quality control system, is powered by the Intelligent Fusion manufacturing process.
