Mazak Quick Turn 450MY Expands Part Processing Versatility for Complex and Extra-Long Components!

Mazak Corp. has expanded its multitasking turning portfolio with the introduction of the Quick Turn 450MY CNC turning center featuring an extended bed length option, aimed at manufacturers processing long, complex, and high-value components. Designed to combine turning and milling operations in a single setup, the Quick Turn 450MY enhances flexibility, productivity, and accuracy for a wide range of machining applications.

A key highlight of the new configuration is the optional 120-inch (3,000 mm) bed length, which enables machining of workpieces up to 122 inches (3,098.8 mm) long. This extended capacity allows shops to process shafts, hydraulic components, energy-sector parts, and other elongated components without the need for secondary operations or additional machines. For manufacturers with more compact requirements, Mazak also offers an 80-inch (2,000 mm) bed length version, supporting workpieces up to 80.31 inches (2,040 mm), providing flexibility to match machine configuration with production needs.

In addition to extended length capability, the Quick Turn 450MY delivers strong part-processing versatility through a maximum machining diameter of 22.83 inches (579.9 mm). This combination of length and diameter capacity allows the machine to accommodate a broad spectrum of part geometries, making it suitable for industries such as automotive, aerospace, energy, heavy equipment, and general engineering.

The turning center is powered by a robust main spindle designed for demanding applications. With a bar diameter capacity of 7.24 inches (184 mm), the main spindle is equipped with an 18-inch chuck and driven by a 50 hp (37 kW) motor, delivering reliable torque and performance at speeds of up to 2,000 rpm. This setup ensures stable cutting performance when machining large or heavy components.

Multitasking capability is further enhanced by the rotary tool turret spindle, which provides 10 hp (8 kW) of power and reaches speeds of up to 6,000 rpm. With a 12-tool capacity and integrated Y-axis functionality, the turret enables milling, drilling, and off-center machining operations to be completed in the same setup as turning. This reduces part handling, improves positional accuracy, and shortens overall cycle times.

The Quick Turn 450MY is equipped with the Mazatrol SmoothG CNC, supporting both Mazatrol conversational programming and EIA/ISO programming. This dual capability allows experienced programmers and shop-floor operators alike to program parts efficiently while maintaining flexibility for complex machining strategies. A standard Automatic Tool Eye system further improves productivity by automatically measuring tool offsets and registering tool data, reducing setup time and minimizing the risk of manual errors.
