Manaksia Coated Metals Initiates Upgrade and Capacity Expansion of Galvanizing Line in Gujarat!
Manaksia Coated Metals & Industries Limited has commenced a planned shutdown of its Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL) at its Kutch facility in Gujarat to undertake a major technology upgrade and capacity expansion. The project marks a strategic shift from conventional galvanised steel production to Aluminium-Zinc coated steel, while also increasing the line’s overall production capacity to support future growth.
As part of the upgrade, Manaksia Coated Metals is installing Aluminium-Zinc coating technology and enhancing line speeds to improve throughput and efficiency. Upon completion, the annual installed capacity of the Continuous Galvanizing Line will rise from 132,000 metric tonnes to 180,000 metric tonnes, representing a capacity expansion of approximately 36 percent. The shutdown began in December, with the company expecting production of Aluminium-Zinc coated steel to stabilise from January 2026.
The transition to Aluminium-Zinc coating is expected to deliver multiple operational and commercial benefits. In addition to improving corrosion resistance, the upgraded line is designed to enhance operating efficiency, increase productivity, and reduce coating costs per metric tonne. The company also expects improved energy efficiency from the new configuration, supporting its broader objective of moving toward higher-value, more sustainable coated steel products. Once production normalises, the upgrade is anticipated to contribute positively to operating margins.
Manaksia Coated Metals has stated that the shutdown and transition have been carefully planned to minimise disruption to downstream operations and customer deliveries. During the upgrade period, the company continues to produce pre-painted steel, ensuring continuity of supply and the ability to meet existing customer commitments even as the galvanizing line undergoes conversion.
Commenting on the development, Karan Agrawal, Whole-Time Director of the company, said the upgrade is aligned with Manaksia’s long-term strategy to strengthen its coated steel portfolio and enhance manufacturing capabilities. He highlighted that Aluminium-Zinc coated steel is gaining increasing acceptance in both domestic and international markets due to its superior durability and wider range of applications compared to conventional galvanised steel.
From a strategic perspective, the upgraded CGL is expected to support scalable volume growth, improve the company’s product mix, and strengthen its position across export and domestic markets. Aluminium-Zinc coated products typically command higher realisations than standard galvanised steel, positioning the company to benefit from improved pricing and demand trends.
With this investment, Manaksia Coated Metals reinforces its focus on technology-led capacity expansion and value-added products. The conversion of the galvanizing line not only enhances production capability but also positions the company to respond effectively to rising demand for advanced coated steel solutions in infrastructure, construction, and industrial applications.
