Madison Chemical has introduced Compound RP-111, an advanced water-based rust preventative designed to protect ferrous and copper metals during short-term indoor storage. This innovative formulation forms a nearly invisible, dry-to-the-touch film that provides reliable corrosion protection for up to four weeks on previously cleaned parts, making it ideal for manufacturers seeking efficient and eco-friendly rust prevention solutions.
Unlike conventional oil- or solvent-based coatings, Compound RP-111 is completely free from oils, solvents, and hazardous chemicals such as nitrites, silicates, phosphates, hydroxides, chlorine, phenols, and sulfur. This ensures a safer working environment and lower operational costs while aligning with sustainability goals in modern manufacturing facilities. The product’s non-toxic composition also makes it compatible with a wide range of industrial processes, including use prior to heat-treating operations where cleanliness and residue-free surfaces are essential.
Compound RP-111 is versatile in its application. It is typically diluted between 2% and 10% by volume in water, though concentrations up to 15% can be used for extended protection. The solution operates effectively across a broad temperature range, from 70°F to 160°F, depending on drying time and handling requirements. Heating the solution can further accelerate drying and improve film uniformity, ensuring optimal coverage and corrosion resistance.
To achieve the best results, Madison Chemical recommends determining the ideal concentration through lab or plant trials that consider factors such as temperature, humidity, and desired protection duration. The company also advises that treated parts be allowed to dry completely before stacking or nesting, as premature handling could compromise the protective film. Additionally, aggressive drying methods like high-pressure air or centrifugal spinning should be avoided unless validated through testing to maintain consistent film thickness and protection quality.
Safe for both ferrous and copper alloys when used as directed, Compound RP-111 offers manufacturers a reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally conscious solution for rust prevention. Its ease of use, clean application, and compatibility with various production environments make it suitable for facilities of all sizes across automotive, aerospace, precision machining, and general metalworking industries.
By combining performance, safety, and sustainability, Madison Chemical’s Compound RP-111 sets a new benchmark in corrosion prevention, helping manufacturers protect their components while maintaining cleaner operations and lower environmental impact.
