LMT Tools India Establishes Nation’s Largest Gear Cutting Tool Hub in Chakan!
LMT Tools India has inaugurated a major expansion of its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, creating what it describes as India’s largest gear cutting tool production hub. The development marks a significant milestone in the country’s precision engineering and advanced tooling landscape.
A subsidiary of Germany-based LMT Group, the company has increased production capacity at the Chakan plant by 60 percent. The expansion responds to rising demand for high-precision gear cutting tools across automotive, aerospace, railways, wind energy, die and mould, and general engineering sectors.
The upgraded facility integrates advanced manufacturing systems, enhanced automation and modernised infrastructure designed to meet increasingly complex machining requirements. With this capacity jump, the Chakan site is positioned not only to serve domestic manufacturers but also to strengthen exports, reinforcing India’s growing role in global supply chains for high-performance cutting tools.
Gear cutting tools are central to the production of transmission systems, drivetrain components and industrial gear assemblies. As automotive OEMs deepen localisation efforts and industries adopt more sophisticated manufacturing technologies, demand for precision tooling has accelerated. By scaling up operations, LMT Tools India aims to reduce lead times, enhance delivery reliability and provide closer technical collaboration with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
The expansion also reinforces Chakan’s status as a strategic node within the group’s global manufacturing network. With improved production capability and technological upgrades, the facility is expected to handle a broader mix of complex and customised tooling solutions.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior leadership from LMT Group, including Oliver Thomas, Managing Director of LMT Group and CEO of LMT Tools; Ramakant Reddy, Managing Director of LMT Tools India; Carsten Storm, CFO of LMT Tools; and Raphael Lienau, Managing Director of LMT Fette. Customers and industry partners were also present, highlighting the strategic importance of the expansion.
The move signals continued confidence in India’s manufacturing ecosystem at a time when the country is positioning itself as a global hub for precision engineering and advanced industrial production. With increased capacity, upgraded technology and a diversified sector focus, LMT Tools India is strengthening its ability to support complex machining applications for both domestic and international markets.
By combining global engineering standards with local manufacturing strength, the Chakan facility is set to play a pivotal role in advancing India’s gear cutting tool capabilities and enhancing competitiveness in high-precision manufacturing.
