LK Metrology launches Maxima CMM range for high-precision measurement of large components!

LK Metrology has introduced its Maxima and Maxima R bridge-type coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), engineered to deliver precise measurement of large, complex and heavy components across demanding industrial applications. These systems are designed to support quality control requirements in sectors such as aerospace, energy, automotive, heavy engineering and power generation, where accuracy and repeatability are critical.

The Maxima series is built with advanced ceramic materials for the beam and spindle guideways, offering a high stiffness-to-weight ratio. This design, combined with a robust structural framework, enables measurement accuracy and repeatability down to 3 microns. High-efficiency air bearings and optimized drive systems further enhance performance, ensuring smooth operation with minimal maintenance requirements.

One of the standout features of the Maxima range is its large measurement volume, which spans from 12 to 72 cubic metres—among the largest available for CMMs with granite tables. The range includes 28 models with table lengths from 3 to 8 metres and multiple bridge configurations, allowing manufacturers to handle oversized and heavy workpieces without compromising measurement precision.

Complementing this is the Maxima R series, which features a twin-rail design specifically engineered for heavyweight components. Unlike traditional systems, the Maxima R enables floor-level loading, making it easier and safer to handle large parts. The design also supports seamless integration with automated transfer systems, improving workflow efficiency in production environments.

A key advantage of the Maxima R models is that they eliminate the need for specialized foundations, reducing installation complexity and cost while maintaining high levels of stability. This makes them particularly attractive for manufacturers looking to upgrade inspection capabilities without significant infrastructure changes.

Both Maxima and Maxima R systems are equipped with LK’s advanced controller technology and offer flexible configurations to meet diverse inspection needs. They can be configured for tactile probing or advanced laser scanning using systems such as the PH10MQ Plus multisensor probe head, ScanTek with Revo2 five-axis scanning, or the SP80 fixed scanning head. This versatility allows manufacturers to perform a wide range of inspection tasks—from basic dimensional checks to complex surface analysis.

Additionally, the systems support multiple laser scanning technologies through a unified multiwire cable setup, eliminating the need for separate configurations and simplifying integration into existing workflows. This flexibility enhances productivity while reducing setup time and operational complexity.

Overall, the Maxima and Maxima R CMM ranges represent a significant advancement in large-scale metrology.
